C Programming Language information

What is a C programming language?

A C Programming Language job involves designing, developing, and maintaining software using the C programming language. C is widely used for system programming, embedded systems, operating systems, and performance-critical applications. Professionals in this role typically write efficient, low-level code, optimize program performance, and debug software issues. They may work in industries such as telecommunications, automotive, finance, and gaming. Strong knowledge of memory management, data structures, and algorithms is essential for success in this field.

What does a C programmer do?

As a C Programmer, your daily tasks typically involve writing, testing, and debugging C code to develop new features or maintain existing software applications. You will often collaborate with software engineers, testers, and project managers to understand requirements and resolve technical issues. Other responsibilities may include code reviews, performance optimization, and keeping documentation up to date. This role usually involves significant problem-solving and critical thinking, offering engagement with both low-level system programming and high-level application development.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a C programmer?

To thrive as a C Programmer, you need a deep understanding of the C programming language, data structures, algorithms, and strong problem-solving abilities, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with integrated development environments (IDEs), version control systems like Git, and operating system concepts, as well as relevant certifications, are valuable assets. Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective communication are key soft skills for identifying bugs and collaborating with team members. These skills are crucial for building reliable and efficient software solutions, maintaining code quality, and ensuring smooth coordination within development teams.

Are C programmers still in demand?

C programmers are still in demand, especially in systems programming, embedded systems, and performance-critical applications. Knowledge of C remains valuable for working with operating systems, device drivers, and hardware interfaces, and many industries rely on C for low-level programming tasks.

Job description

The Controls Engineer serves as technical designer of software specialized in Mecalux Systems of Warehouses.  This role is responsible for creating the programs in our proprietary Galileo and performing all the tests of controllers, inverters, and security systems to put the installation in service.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage in proprietary software development by utilizing Designer AWS and Galileo to create warehouse solutions for customers and modifying these programs based off of the client need
  • Create control programs using internal tools such as Designer AWS and Galileo by configuring the Profibus or Profinet network using Sycon.net software and using Sycon.net in addition to Galileo to perform all of the tests for the controllers
  • Conduct installation startup by checking the Profibus/Profinet network by running diagnostic tests using programs such as Sycon.net, TIA Portal, Galileo, and Proneta.  Validate wire connections, device addresses, input/output quantities, and signal quality
  • Load control programs to the VFD control drive, operator panels, barcode scanners, and PCs
  • Check that safety devices are properly installed and working using easySoft-Safety software and conducting physical inspections.
  • Delegate daily tasks to electromechanics assisting at the installation, ensuring they are completed properly and on time, reporting deviations to the Project Manager and Site Manager.
  • Assist Project Managers in determining the human resources demand for a project including duties and work schedules for electromechanics and electricians.
  • Commission the on-site control program by uploading proprietary software to the solution.  Debug and troubleshoot on-site
  • Collaborate with Project Manager and clients to ensure project is satisfying their needs
  • Conduct training courses for customers.  Train the customer’s maintenance and/or other personnel on how to properly operate Galileo software and HMI interfaces.  Schedule trainings on site or virtually, accommodating customer’s availability.
  • Provide work progress reports to the department manager and Project Manager.  Include updates on daily completed technical tasks and what is to be accomplished the following day in order to keep an accurate record of the project timeline and to prevent any delays in commissioning.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (electrical, industrial, or mechanical).
