Job description

The Production Planning Specialist position is an important role on the Silgan Dispensing team and is a great opportunity for those looking to advance their skills. The Production Planning Specialist assists in the creation and regularly monitors overall supply plans to meet customer and business goals. Here's a list of duties that our Production Planning Specialist performs on a typical day:

  • Converting purchase requisitions into purchase orders for all capital expensed purchases.
  • Creating new vendors into SAP for purchasing. Maintaining/updating vendor information.
  • Accurately maintain purchasing records for selected vendors, using SAP software in an ISO 9000 environment.
  • Crosstrain in planning for assigned products, recognizing forecasted requirements and critical resources, with special coordination for new development projects.
  • Maintain detailed MRP component build schedules to maximize manufacturing up-time for Dispensing manufacturing & vendor reliability.
  • Communicate with Silgan personnel in a timely, clear, efficient, and appropriate method regarding all aspects of parts supply including delivery status, production schedules, lead times, revisions, and OTIF calculations.
  • Work with planning, engineering, finance, operations colleagues to record and transfer Silgan metal & molded part manufacturing capability records into SAP for capacity planning.
  • Assist Finance team to solve invoicing issues with suppliers. Confirming pricing and/or approve charges.
  • Place orders and act as primary contact with manufacturing subcontractors and assigned vendors to support manufacturing plan.
  • Identify customer requirements not on order and develop supply forecasts with customer service, sales, and manufacturing to best utilize production capacities.
  • Manage schedules to achieve service level targets while maintaining inventory objectives.
  • Working with warehouse personnel to accurately receive components into SAP
  • Interface with all company disciplines to ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Insure monthly Lean assignments are complete for all planning team members.
  • Assist development & support integration of new SAP
  • Summarize SIOP & Capacity info for local review & company-wide distribution as needed.
  • Collect/build/publish planning data as required to help improve manufacturing performance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualified Candidates must have:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5-7 years' experience in a high volume, repetitive manufacturing organization.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others in a Team environment.
  • Time management and organizational skills are essential.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, SAP, etc.
  • SAP R3/BW planning experience and/or APICS certification is a plus.

Preferred Candidates will have:

  • Ability to work independently and be proactive.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and report data.
  • Ability to prioritize work is essential.
  • Good oral and written communication skills

Physical Demands (Reasonable accommodations provided):

  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) on the production floor.
