Job description

Lord Abbett is seeking an experienced Municipal Bond Research Analyst to join our Tax-Free Fixed Income investment team. This role is designed for an experienced municipal credit professional with a focus in revenue-backed municipal securities, potentially including sectors such as transportation, utilities, pre-paid gas, industrial revenue and other revenue issuers.

As a Municipal Bond Research Analyst, you will serve as a primary driver of fundamental credit insights. You will take ownership of a coverage universe, produce credit opinions, and help shape portfolio positioning through rigorous analysis and timely communication.

Ideal candidates will have 5โ€“15 years of experience analyzing municipal credits on the buy side, at a rating agency, or in a comparable role.

  • Lead fundamental credit research for a dedicated municipal revenue-bond coverage universe, maintaining forward-looking views, rating assumptions, and issuer-specific risk assessments.
  • Monitor credit, operating, and capital trends across key municipal sectors; synthesize financial, legal, economic, demographic, and ESG-related inputs into actionable conclusions.
  • Build and maintain robust financial models, scenario analyses, and sector frameworks to evaluate issuer performance and credit trajectories.
  • Produce clear, insightful written research, investment recommendations, and presentations for use in internal discussions and meetings.
  • Engage directly with issuers, underwriters, municipal advisors, and other market participants to deepen understanding and inform analysis.
  • Collaborate across the broader Fixed Income platform to share insights, ensure consistency of credit philosophy, and support multi-sector strategies.
  • Leverage advanced quantitative tools, AI-enabled analytics, and firmwide data resources to enhance research depth and efficiency.

  • 5โ€“15 years of experience researching municipal bondsโ€”ideally at a buy-side asset manager, rating agency, or similar platform.
  • Demonstrated expertise in revenue-backed municipal sectors and familiarity with legal security structures, covenants, flow-of-funds, and issuer financials.
  • Strong financial modeling, analytical, and valuation skills; proficiency with Excel and/or analytical programming tools a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including the ability to articulate concise, high-conviction credit opinions under time pressure.
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree required; advanced degree, CFA, or CFA candidacy preferred.
