Job description

Position Summary

The Access Control Technician Level 2 is responsible for the installation, wiring, termination, and field configuration of commercial access control systems. This role operates independently on standard projects and assists on a team with advanced system integrations.

Core Responsibilities

  • Install and terminate access control panels, door controllers, and power supplies
  • Install and wire card readers, keypads, REX devices, door contacts, and request-to-exit buttons
  • Install and wire electric strikes, magnetic locks, and electrified hardware
  • Run and terminate low-voltage cabling (22/6, 18/2, Cat6, composite cable)
  • Install and dress enclosures cleanly with proper labeling
  • Install backup batteries and surge protection as required
  • Perform basic programming of readers and door configurations
  • Assist with system startup and door testing

Technical Skills Required

  • Strong understanding of door hardware and electrified locking systems
  • Ability to wire strikes, mag locks, and request-to-exit properly
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams and panel schematics
  • Understanding of fail-safe vs fail-secure applications
  • Basic networking knowledge (IP addressing, PoE concepts)
  • Experience with commercial systems (PDK, ButterflyMX, Brivo, etc. preferred)

 Field Expectations

  • Work independently on single- or multi-door systems
  • Troubleshoot wiring and power issues in the field
  • Maintain clean panel builds and labeled terminations
  • Communicate scope changes or conflicts to PM
  • Ensure all life-safety code requirements are followed

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years experience in access control or low-voltage
  • Comfortable working with hand tools, drills, fish tape, multimeter
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work on ladders/lifts
  • Clean driving record
  • Strong troubleshooting mindset
