Butterfly Biosphere Explorer Job Description
Wage: $11-12/hour
Shift: Part time (15 hours per week). Mon-Sat. Includes some holidays.

Summary: As an Explorer at Thanksgiving Point, you will play a key role in creating a world class experience for our guests. You will welcome, guide, and engage our guest's curiosity as they explore Utah's only Butterfly Conservatory! You will gain valuable experience and essential skills in customer service, retail, STEM, and programming. As you gain these learning experiences, helping kids of all ages, you will find increased compassion, curiosity and confidence in yourself. Please join our incredible team!
Responsibilities:
  • Interact with and engage visitors of all ages to ignite transformative family learning, guide exploration, and encourage critical thinking.
  • Provide exceptional guest service by monitoring and assisting guests with confidence.
  • Run cashier at the front desk and gift shop.
  • Facilitate inquiry-based learning experiences with curiosity.
  • Collaborate with coworkers.
  • Help maintain an orderly, safe, clean and compassionate environment for our team and guests.
  • Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of Thanksgiving Point venues and activities.
  • Model curiosity to create positive, meaningful experiences.
  • Assist guests as they explore and enjoy insects of all sizes and kinds, including an escape to our version of "Costa Rica", our interactive Critter Encounters, and maybe chat with an Entomologist.
  • Evaluate visitor experiences using appropriate tools and methodologies.
  • Welcome and include all guests as they are.
  • Adhere to all rules and regulations.
  • Exemplify Thanksgiving Point's mission, values, and policies with curiosity, compassion, and confidence.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager/supervisor.

Requirements:
  • Strong communication and great customer service, with collaborative approach to the workplace, and ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
  • Enthusiastic and can-do approach.
  • Comfortable working with and around flying insects, spiders, roaches, beetles, (etc.), humid heat, and large crowds.
  • Ability to work patiently in high-activity, high-energy, noisy environments.
  • Readily learn cash register, money handling, and facilitation best practices and skills.
  • Comfort with initiating conversations and exploring with our guests and enforcing safety procedures with confidence, compassion, and curiosity.
  • Physical demands may include lifting 25 lbs., climbing stairs, bending, standing for extended periods of time, and manipulating small objects.
  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Must pass a background check.
