Business Insight information

What is a business insight professional?

Business Insight professionals are experts who analyze data and trends to help organizations make informed strategic decisions. They gather and interpret complex information from various sources, transforming it into actionable recommendations that drive business growth and efficiency. Their work often involves using analytical tools, creating reports, and collaborating with different departments to identify opportunities and solve business challenges. By providing valuable insights, they help companies stay competitive and respond effectively to market changes.

How does a business insight professional typically collaborate with other departments to drive data-informed decisions?

Business Insight professionals play a key role in bridging the gap between data analytics and strategic decision-making. They regularly collaborate with departments such as finance, marketing, and operations by translating complex data findings into actionable recommendations. This often involves participating in cross-functional meetings, presenting insights through reports or dashboards, and working closely with stakeholders to understand their objectives. Effective communication and a deep understanding of the business context are essential for ensuring that insights lead to meaningful actions and measurable outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a business insight role, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Business Insights role, you need strong analytical abilities, business acumen, and proficiency in data interpretation, usually supported by a degree in business, economics, or a related field. Experience with data analysis tools such as Excel, SQL, Tableau, or Power BI, along with knowledge of statistical methods, is typically required. Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills help professionals translate data into actionable recommendations. These competencies are critical for driving informed decision-making and delivering strategic value to an organization.

Job description

Company Description

Air is the leader in Enterprise Readiness. Our mission is to establish readiness as a real-time condition that is continuously achieved. Today, a dangerous Readiness Gap exists between what the front line needs and what is delivered. Our AI-native platform, Air Enterprise Readiness, aligns development, production, delivery, and sustainment into one coordinated execution system for government agencies and industrial suppliers. By revealing true capacity, exposing real constraints, coordinating resources, and executing at the speed of operational demands, the front line gets what it needs to succeed.

Job Description

We are seeking a high-energy, mission-focused, and deeply analytical Senior Manager, Business Insights and Analytics to take complete ownership of Air's internal operational data ecosystem. In this role, you will lead the evolution of our corporate database management, analytics infrastructure, and business intelligence platforms.

To thrive at Air, you must be a data leader who is fiercely scrappy and possesses an absolute intolerance of mediocrity. You are not just a builder of dashboards; you are a trusted advisor to company leadership and an absolute expert in the "so what". You look past raw tables and numbers to see the big picture, translating complex, fragmented data into clear, strategic narratives that dictate operational execution. You challenge assumptions, ask the hard questions, and bring data to life to keep our growing organization moving fast and executing with precision.

This role is based in our Arlington, VA Headquarters and could require travel up to 10% of the time.ย

Scope of Responsibilities

  • Data Ecosystem Ownership: Act as the ultimate owner of Air's internal operational data, managing core database architecture, scaling data warehouses, and ensuring maximum reporting speed, performance, and data integrity.
  • BI Platform Modernization: Lead the architecture, deployment, and ongoing administration of enterprise business intelligence platforms to enable seamless, self-service data exploration.
  • Executive Insights & Analytics: Formulate, model, and track critical business metrics and KPIs, transforming manual data collection tasks into automated, repeatable, and scalable analytics solutions.
  • Strategic Advisory: Deliver concise, compelling data-driven findings and strategic recommendations directly to executives to guide high-stakes business and operational decisions.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Sales, Product Management, Engineering, and Finance teams to capture internal business requirements and configure analytics platforms tailored to their strategic workflows.
  • Process Innovation: Doggedly seek out operational efficiencies, optimizing internal reporting workflows and refining analytical processes to eliminate friction.

Qualifications & Skills

  • U.S. Citizenship is mandatory.
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Data Science, Business Analytics, Mathematics, Statistics, or equivalent work experience.

Required:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience working with data-driven analytics and enterprise business intelligence platforms (e.g., Sigma, PowerBI, Looker, or Looker Studio).
  • Advanced expertise deriving key business insights and KPIs from large, complex, and loosely defined internal datasets.
  • Strong proficiency in building, optimization, and automation using flavors of SQL and common database management tools.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to explain highly technical insights to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision in a challenging, fast-paced tech environment.

Desired:

  • Current possession of a U.S. security clearance, or the ability to obtain one with our sponsorship.
  • Experience in or exposure to the nuances of a startup or other fast-growing, entrepreneurial tech environment.
  • Familiarity with regular script development in Python or R for data transformation and automation workflows.
  • Experience analyzing corporate performance, financial data, internal tech metrics, or operational process analytics within a software organization.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in leveraging AI-powered platforms (e.g., Claude Cowork, Gemini, NotebookLM) to drive operational efficiency; experience with agentic workflows and prompt engineering for data synthesis is a strong plus.

We firmly believe that past performance is the best indicator of future performance.ย  If you thrive while building solutions to complex problems, are a self-starter, and are passionate about making an impact in global security, we're eager to hear from you.

Air is an Equal Opportunity Employer.ย  All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability and protected veterans status or any other characteristic protected by law.
