Job description

Business & Real Estate Litigation & Transactional Attorney (4–10 Years)

Direct Counsel is seeking a mid-to-senior level Business & Real Estate Attorney with 4–10 years of experience to join a growing practice. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney looking for sophisticated, hands-on work in a collaborative environment without the pressure of billable hour requirements.

This role offers a unique blend of approximately 60% litigation and 40% transactional work, providing exposure to a wide range of complex business and real estate matters while working directly with experienced attorneys and clients.

Responsibilities
  • Handle a variety of business and commercial litigation matters from inception through resolution.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts, purchase and sale agreements, leases, operating agreements, and other transactional documents.
  • Advise clients on business formation, governance, and day-to-day legal matters.
  • Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, motions, and discovery, and assist with depositions, mediations, and court appearances.
  • Counsel clients on real estate acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, financing, and related transactions.
  • Develop litigation strategy while also providing practical business solutions to clients.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through responsive, high-quality legal service.
Qualifications
  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Active California Bar membership in good standing.
  • 4–10 years of experience in business law, commercial litigation, real estate transactions, or a combination of both.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to independently manage matters while collaborating with a close-knit team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a client-focused approach.
Why Join?
  • No billable hour requirement
  • Hybrid schedule: In-office Monday through Thursday with remote work every Friday
  • Annual performance bonus
  • Opportunity to work on a diverse mix of litigation and transactional matters
  • Collaborative, team-oriented culture with direct client interaction
  • Competitive compensation and benefits
  • Meaningful opportunities for professional growth and long-term career development
Salary: $160,000 - $200,000

If you're looking for a role that offers sophisticated work, flexibility, and a healthy work-life balance without the pressure of billable hour targets, we'd love to hear from you.
