Job description


Terracon is seeking a qualified Assistant Project Manager to grow and expand our asbestos and industrial hygiene practice in our Lubbock, Texas, office. Successful candidate must possess Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) asbestos Licenses(s) with a minimum of two years of experience conducting asbestos / hazardous material inspections and oversight of remediation activities.
As an Assistant Project Manager with asbestos licenses, you will work closely with the Asbestos and Industrial Hygiene Group Manager to supervise our hazardous materials and industrial hygiene projects and ensure that work is performed timely and cost effectively while meeting our client's requirements as well as company policies, procedures, and standards. You and our Lubbock team will work together to prepare winning proposals for asbestos, lead, and other hazardous materials and industrial hygiene inspections, prepare bid specifications, and coordinate abatement oversight. You will prepare and review reports documenting inspections and abatement projects for clients and will coach and mentor junior staff on quality data generation and reporting. You will have the opportunity to participate in leading the daily operations including staff training and development, performance conversations, safe utilization of equipment and facilities, quality of services and work products, timely delivery of services and reports, and overall quality and client experience. In addition, you will participate in business development activities with the office leadership team to identify, develop, and win new opportunities while building and maintaining existing client relationships.
Responsibilities
  • Lead safety initiatives and ensure safety rules and guidelines are followed. Responsible for creating and modeling a safe work environment, demonstrating safety practices, and promoting pre-task planning for all projects.
  • Encourage strict adherence to safe work practices and enforce company and client safety policies across all projects. Responsible for maintaining compliance with safety standards and fostering a strong safety culture throughout project execution.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to junior staff, fostering professional growth through mentoring, training, and performance management.
  • Prepare proposals for hazardous materials and industrial hygiene investigations for asbestos, lead-containing paint, and other regulated hazardous substances.
  • Coordinate, organize, and secure the necessary resources to ensure successful completion of small sized projects. Responsibilities often involve preparing calculations, designs, reports and work specifications; developing project schedules, budgets and forecasts; and selecting materials, equipment, project staff, and external contractors.
  • Partner with other departments or offices to secure specialized resources for the project.
  • Based on project size, the Project Manager will lead and / or perform sampling and provide comprehensive results, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Conduct meetings and prepare reports to communicate the status of the project.
  • Set priorities, assign and delegate tasks, and coordinate with project staff to meet project targets and milestones.
  • Coordinate with Terracon subject matter experts to ensure appropriate oversight is in place and sufficient time allowed for reviews of all critical junctures.
  • Direct the creation of project deliverables. Rapidly develop a thorough understanding of Terracon's processes for report preparation and its technical quality standards.
  • Coordinate with accounting for financial management of business intelligence, invoicing and collections.
  • Maintain awareness of project-related risks, understand potential issues that could arise, and implement measures to safeguard the company. Knowledgeable about organizational risk management policies.
  • Examine contract documents and propose solutions for major challenges, while independently resolving minor issues.
  • Work closely with Terracon managers to identify and pursue business opportunities with targeted new and existing clients.
  • Assists in the preparation of request for proposal (RFP) documents for business development, ensuring timely submission, high-quality deliverables, and full compliance with RFP requirements.
  • Contribute to achieving key group performance goals, including revenue growth, staff utilization, project billing and collections, and overall project profitability.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a science or worker health and safety-related discipline such as Environmental Health, Chemistry, Industrial Safety or Industrial Hygiene and minimum of two years hazardous materials/ industrial hygiene practice experience or equivalent. Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 6 years' related experience.
  • Current TDSHS Asbestos Licenses (Asbestos Inspector, Air Monitoring Technician, Asbestos Project Manager, Asbestos Management Planner or Asbestos Individual Consultant)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with clients and team.
  • Valid driver's license, and insurable driving record.
    Preferred:
  • Solid understanding of TDSHS, OSHA, EPA and local requirements related to asbestos, lead, and hazardous building materials.
  • TDSHS certified lead inspector or lead risk assessor.
  • Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) licensed Mold Assessment Consultant or Mold Assessment Technician.
  • Experience in Industrial Hygiene Services (OSHA monitoring, noise dosimetry, etc.)
