Transportation Business Development Lead

Department: Transportation

Location: Huntsville, AL

Compensation: $125,000 - $170,000 / year

We’re looking for a strategic, relationship-driven leader to expand our presence in the North Alabama market, with a focus on roadway and transportation infrastructure projects. This role is ideal for someone with deep industry connections who can identify opportunities, build client relationships, and help secure and shape impactful civil engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for business development efforts in the Huntsville and North Alabama market
  • Lead strategic growth initiatives focused on roadway, transportation, and public infrastructure projects
  • Identify, pursue, and secure new project opportunities through existing and new client relationships
  • Develop and maintain strong connections with local municipalities, Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT), contractors, and industry partners
  • Track upcoming projects, RFQs/RFPs, and market trends to position the firm competitively
  • Lead go/no-go decisions, proposal strategy, and interview preparation
  • Collaborate with technical teams to develop scopes of work, staffing plans, and fee proposals
  • Support project kickoff and transition to delivery teams, ensuring alignment with client expectations
  • Maintain and grow key client relationships through regular communication and engagement
  • Represent the firm at industry events, conferences, and local networking functions
  • Partner with internal leadership to align business development goals with company strategy
  • Assist in hiring and building a local team to support growth in the Huntsville region
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in civil engineering, with a strong emphasis on transportation/roadway infrastructure
  • Proven track record in business development, client relationship management, and project capture
  • Established network of contacts in the Huntsville/North Alabama engineering and infrastructure market
  • Strong understanding of public-sector procurement processes, including RFQs/RFPs
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
  • Ability to identify opportunities and convert leads into awarded projects
  • Self-motivated, strategic thinker with strong organizational and leadership abilities
  • Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Ability to travel locally for client meetings, site visits, and industry events
