Job description

Granite City Electric Supply is the area's premier electrical distributor serving electrical contractors as well as residential, commercial and industrial customers for over 100 years.  With over 30 branches covering Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York and Connecticut, we are the largest regional independent electrical supply company and the official distributor of electrical supplies to the Boston Red Sox. 

Summary/Objective
Reporting to the Business Development Manager and governed by the VP of Marketing, this is an entry level position that provides training on the fundamentals of electric supply sales. Primary focus is on generating and qualifying new business opportunities for our sales team as well as basic demonstration of key products and services.

Essential Functions

  1. Prospect and identify clients to contact via cold calling, research, and direct marketing outreach
  2. Travel to work sites to engage with decision makers and explain or demonstrate products and services
  3. Research prospects and identify stakeholders in order to generate interest and create rapport
  4. Manage expectations and overcome objections
  5. Maintain an organized pipeline and activity records.
  6. Reach and exceed key performance indicators including calls scheduled, calls completed, qualified opportunities and deals won from your meetings.
  7. Develop skills necessary for promotion into a consultative selling or account management role
  8. Work closely with management, marketing and senior sales teams to develop and continue to develop career in sales
  9. Work alongside top performers on sales team
  10. Work alongside other BDR’s, suggesting ways to improve procedures and work together to evaluate successes and failures

Work Environment
This job operates in a clerical, distribution office/showroom setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and digital cameras.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is an hourly, full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. This position also earns commission. 

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  1. Ability to uphold the stress of traveling
  2. Light to moderate lifting up to 20 pounds
  3. Involves climbing stairs in many of our branch locations; however, some material management and filing is required. This would require the ability to lift light boxes and materials.
  4. Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder
  5. Expected to do on-site/field work such as tradeshows and meetings

Travel
Some regional travel will be required @ 30%.
Position requires an active license and reliable transportation. 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Entry level to 1-year sales or professional experience
  • Equivalent industry experience may be substituted for any of the above
  • Cold calling, previous sales training experience a plus
