About Us

Wellington Management offers comprehensive investment management capabilities that span nearly all segments of the global capital markets. Our investment solutions, tailored to the unique return and risk objectives of institutional clients in more than 60 countries, draw on a robust body of proprietary research and a collaborative culture that encourages independent thought and healthy debate. As a private partnership, we believe our ownership structure fosters a long‑term view that aligns our perspectives with those of our clients.

About the Role

Wellington Management currently manages approximately $1.3 trillion in assets globally. The Americas Institutional Group (AIG) is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager focused on the Western region of the U.S., a strategically important market for the firm. This role partners with Public Fund, Endowment and Foundation, Corporate, and Taft‑Hartley clients and their consultants across the region, driving new business development and asset growth while serving as a strategic thought partner to existing and prospective clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a regional business development strategy to drive asset growth across institutional clients and consultants in the Western U.S.
  • Originate, manage, and convert new business opportunities by aligning client needs with Wellington's investment capabilities.
  • Build and deepen senior-level relationships with institutional allocators, investment staff, and consultants.
  • Represent Wellington's long‑term investment philosophy through a consultative, content‑led approach.
  • Partner closely with internal Relationship Management, Consultant Relations, Product Management, and Portfolio Management teams to deliver coordinated, high‑quality client and prospect coverage across the region.
  • Align client objectives with Wellington's full range of investment capabilities across public and private markets, including both existing and customized solutions.
Essential Skills
  • Proven track record of developing institutional client relationships and generating new business across equity, fixed income, and alternative strategies
  • Strategic, consultative approach with the ability to influence senior decision‑makers and translate complex investment capabilities into client‑relevant solutions
  • Strong collaborative skills and effectiveness in a matrixed environment, partnering across client, product, infrastructure, and investment teams
  • Intellectual curiosity, adaptability, and a growth mindset, with awareness of evolving market dynamics and client needs
Qualifications
  • Minimum 10 years of experience within the investment industry
  • Extensive leadership experience working with clients and related investment portfolios of institutional investors
  • Independence of thought, intellectual curiosity, and an entrepreneurial nature
  • Established credibility and commerciality with generating new business opportunities and managing relationships
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills with ability to articulate and integrate numerous viewpoints and mobilize/influence across firm
  • Ability to navigate stressful situations with poise, focused on being a calming presence, active listener and pragmatic problem solver
  • Ability to travel with frequency
  • Ideally based in Wellington's San Francisco office
  • Strong academic credentials: MBA and/or CFA/CAIA (or equivalent) preferred though not required
  • Series 7 and 63 licenses required
Benefits and Compensation

Base salary range: USD 120,000 – 225,000.

We are committed to a total compensation approach that includes salary, variable compensation and benefits. Other rewards may include a discretionary Corporate Bonus and/or Incentives if eligible. Our benefits include retirement plan, health and wellbeing, dental, vision, and pharmacy coverage, health savings account, flexible spending accounts, commuter program, employee assistance program, life and disability insurance, adoption assistance, bike‑sharing, tuition/CFA reimbursement and paid time off (leave of absence, paid holidays, volunteer, sick and vacation time).

We believe that in‑person interactions inspire and energize our community and are essential to our culture. In support of this commitment, our employees work from our offices 4 days a week with flexibility to work remotely 1 day a week. This approach supports our mission to deliver investment excellence to our clients and their beneficiaries over the long term.
