Job description

Job Title: Power Development Analyst I-Sr

Work Place Flexibility: Onsite

Job Summary

In this position, the candidate will report to the Manager of Power Development Strategic Analytics.

The candidate will contribute to economic assessments and optimization endeavors for both

decarbonization power projects aligned with the corporation's sustainability objectives and new-

growth power projects. The candidate’s responsibilities include managing various market and

technical analysis models, database and PowerPoint platforms to support the broader Power Development initiative.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

Power Solutions Economics and Optimization:

  • Develop/maintain economics assessments of potential power development solutions.
  • Provide optimized design structure around economics and sensitivities.
  • Conduct highly complex analyses for various power solutions.
  • Effectively present and defend conclusions and recommendations.

 Decision Support Analysis:

  • Develop and provide full assessments, rapid responses, or easy to use models/rules of thumb to support the development of power solutions.
  • Supports different tiers of power development initiatives.

 Market Analytics:

  • Monitor and forecast market conditions/mechanics in relevant power markets.
  • Analyze data to identify patterns, trends, and insights relevant to the business problem at hand.
  • Assess implications of current and projected market conditions on power development options.
  • Presenting results in a clear and concise manner to stakeholders, often using visualizations and reports, determine potential actions, and effectively present and defend conclusions and recommendations. Attention to detail to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data analysis.

 Technology Assessment:

  • Monitor and forecast the cost and technical capabilities of generation technologies, including emerging technologies.
  • Develop point of view on generation technology alternatives.
  • Support developing new business plan assumptions for emergent technologies. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Education:

  • BS / BA in technical field such as Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Economics or equivalent work experience.
  • Preferred: MBA or other advanced degree (Economics, Finance, etc.); experience with Power/utility industry.
  • Desired: Proficiency in Excel, Power BI, SQL, or other relevant data analysis tools is crucial.

Minimum Experience:

Power Dev Analyst, I: 0-1+ years’ professional experience – Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Economics or equivalent work experience.

Power Dev Analyst, II: 2+ years’ professional experience - Engineering, Finance, Accounting,

Economics or equivalent work experience

Power Dev Analyst, III: 3+ years’ professional experience – Engineering, Finance, Accounting,

Economics or equivalent work experience.

Power Dev Analyst, Sr: 4+ years’ professional experience – Engineering, Finance, Accounting,

Economics or equivalent work experience.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong collaboration, interpersonal, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to communicate complex matters in a clear and logical manner with excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Strong ability to analyze data, identify trends, and draw meaningful conclusions. Requires proficiency in Excel, PowerBI or other relevant data analysis tools. 
  • Strong analytic capability, attention to detail and work quality
  • Knowledge of technical aspects of resource planning, including thorough understanding of analytical methods, expert analytical tool kit including highly functioning spreadsheet skills
  • Knowledge of relevant planning and decision support models; research methods; relevant power markets; relevant market mechanics and protocols; commercial practices pertaining to power transactions; applicable aspects of utility regulation.
  • Knowledge in or understanding of energy, power, electric utility, commodities, energy finance, and prior experience on project finance is preferred

MBA, MS Economics, MS Finance, or masters in analytics related areas is a plus
