Job description

Job Summary

Vertiv is the industry leader when it comes to building and servicing critical infrastructure that enables vital applications for data centers, communication networks, and commercial/industrial facilities. Because the Vertiv brand is synonymous with Digital Continuity, our internal resilience must not only meet-but shape-global industry standards.

The Director of Global Operational Resilience & IT Disaster Recovery is a high-visibility technical leadership role responsible for the always-on state of Vertiv's global enterprise. This position goes beyond traditional policy writing, focusing instead on real-world resilience-the ability to demonstrate, through rigorous technical execution, that systems can withstand and recover from localized outages or systemic cyber events.

The Director will lead a global team to architect a self-healing enterprise, ensuring resilience across IT back-office systems, manufacturing operations, R&D environments, and global supply chain platforms. In the area of Business Continuity, this role serves as an internal consultant, providing direction, structure, and governance to business functions as they develop and implement continuity plans and recovery playbooks.

This position will be based onsite at Vertiv's Westerville, OH - HQ location.

Responsibilities:

1. Technical DR Design & Automated Execution

  • Lead the design and technical oversight of annual Tier 0 application failovers, ensuring Recovery Time Objectives (RTOs) are achieved through automation rather than manual processes.
  • Drive the transition from static PDF runbooks to Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and orchestrated recovery platforms such as Zerto, Azure Site Recovery, or VMware SRM.
  • Assess, test, and monitor clean-room recovery environments and immutable backup vaults to ensure recoverability following a full-scale ransomware event.
  • Ensure accurate application dependency mapping (database, middleware, application, web) to support correct boot-order sequencing during recovery testing.

2. Global Strategy & Crisis Management

  • Own the multi-year enterprise resilience roadmap aligned with ISO 22301 and NIST 800-34 standards.
  • Serve as the primary technical incident commander during critical continuity events, providing real-time recovery status and impact assessments to executive leadership.
  • Partner with Global Operations to ensure continuity planning extends into manufacturing and operational technology (OT) environments.

3. Program Governance

  • Lead the global Business Impact Analysis (BIA) program to align recovery capabilities with business priorities and customer commitments.
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of Business Continuity Plans (BCPs) across business functions.
  • Plan and lead continuity exercises to validate cross-functional coordination and readiness.
  • Identify continuity gaps and collaborate with the CISO and executive stakeholders to address audit findings and risk exposure.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS, or related technical discipline; Master's degree preferred.
  • 12+ years of progressive IT experience in infrastructure, security, or business continuity, including 5+ years in a global BCDR leadership role.
  • Expert-level technical knowledge of hyper-converged infrastructure, SAN storage, global load balancing, and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
  • Minimum of 5 years of people leadership experience managing geographically distributed teams.
  • Professional certifications such as Master Business Continuity Professional (MBCP) or equivalent; CISSP, CISA, CISM, or cloud architecture certifications strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated crisis leadership, executive-level communication skills, and the ability to translate complex technical risks into business-focused narratives for senior leadership and the Board of Directors.
