The Position

The Singelyn Graduate School of Business in the College of Business Administration at Cal Poly Pomona invites applications for temporary faculty positions in the Master of Science in Financial Analytics (MSFA) program. The MSFA is a STEM-designated, CFA-affiliated graduate program offered in one-year and two-year cohort formats requiring 30 units of coursework. Courses are offered year-round during the fall, spring, and summer terms. The program prepares students for careers in finance by combining a strong foundation in financial markets with advanced analytical and quantitative methods. Students develop the knowledge and technical skills needed to analyze complex financial data, build predictive models, and make data-driven financial decisions. The curriculum includes financial analysis, advanced corporate finance, financial reporting and equity valuation, quantitative investment analysis and portfolio management, big data analytics in finance using Python and R, data visualization, machine learning in finance, fixed income securities, quantitative risk management with financial derivatives using Python, financial technology (FinTech), and an asset management practicum.

The pool is continuously open, and positions are filled as needed, based on student enrollment and funding. Candidates may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The Fall term begins in late August and ends in mid-December; the Spring term begins mid-January and ends in mid-May. Opportunities for teaching during the Summer Sessions may also be available. The program offers courses throughout the fall, spring, and summer terms according to the curriculum roadmap. However, there is an immediate need for instructors to teach the following courses in fall 2026:

FRL 6120: Financial Reporting, Analysis and Equity Valuation

FRL 6200: Financial Analysis I

FRL 6330: Quantitative Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management

FRL 6370: Advanced Corporate Finance

We welcome applications from individuals who are experienced and student-centered to teach in the following subject areas:

Responsibilities

Teach assigned courses within the program curriculum; deliver instructional content; evaluate student learning through assignments, examinations, and other assessments; submit grades in accordance with college deadlines and policies; and maintain weekly office hours commensurate with assigned teaching load. Assignments may include day, evening, and/or weekend courses.

Required Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in Finance, Financial Analytics, Financial Engineering, Quantitative Finance, Business Analytics, Data Science, Economics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a closely related field and significant professional experience (at least five years) in a relevant area of finance or financial analytics.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Finance, Financial Analytics, Financial Engineering, Business Administration (Finance), Economics, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a closely related quantitative field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in finance and financial analytics through research, teaching, or industry practice.
  • Ability to teach graduate-level quantitative courses using tools such as Python, R, SQL, Excel, Power BI/Tableau, Bloomberg, or similar technologies.
  • University-level teaching experience, preferably at the graduate level.
  • CFA, FRM, CPA, CQF, or other relevant professional certifications.
  • Experience in one or more of the following:
    • Investment management
    • Corporate finance
    • Financial planning and analysis (FP&A)
    • Banking
    • Risk management
    • FinTech
    • Financial modeling
    • Data analytics or machine learning applications in finance
    • Prior teaching experience at the college or university level and ability to furnish evidence of strong teaching.

Salary 
MS-Financial Analytics is a self-support program. Adjunct faculty are compensated based on the CSU Salary Schedule for Instructional Faculty, Special Programs, Class Code 2322. Compensation will be commensurate with the assigned workload and enrollment. Please see the table below.
