Job Summary:

Under the direction and supervision of the Project Manager, the Tractor Operator drives gasoline or diesel-powered tractor to: move materials, draw implements, tow trailers, pull objects embedded in-ground, or pull cable of winch to raise, lower, or load heavy material or equipment. The Tractor Operator fastens attachments such as graders, plows, rollers, mowers (over 2000 lbs.), backhoes, seeders, and disc harrows to the tractor, adjusts equipment for proper operations. Manage a team around an active airport and complete tasks efficiently. Performs grounds laborer duties when not operating tractor. Maintains constant monitoring of cleanliness to ensure company standards are correctly maintained while using the appropriate supplies and equipment in a responsible and efficient manner.

Job Duties:

  • Speak in a clear, concise manner via radio transmission with Naval Air Station Tower to avoid runway incursion.
  • Communicates effectively between multiple partners.
  • Train grounds laborers to maintain grounds in accordance with the scope of work under contractual agreement, organizational guidelines, and rotational schedules until project completion.
  • Monitors and adheres to safety requirements.
  • Cut/Mow lawn using hand, power, or riding mower and trim and edge around walks, flower beds, and walls.
  • Landscape by planting flowers, grass, shrubs, and bushes.
  • Apply herbicides to destroy unwanted vegetation and fertilizer to the ground to enhance growth.
  • Remove stumps, fills holes, and apply grass seed as needed.
  • Remove all landscaping debris.
  • Cut down tree limbs that are posing a danger.
  • Trim shrubs and pull weeds.
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance procedures on tractors and equipment utilized in grounds keeping.
  • Rake, mulch, and prune the grounds as needed.
  • Manage mangrove growth both on the land and in the water.
  • Water plants and grass as needed and apply fertilizer.
  • Walk small to large areas to identify debris or hazardous prior to operating the tractor.
  • Move and lift between 25-50+ lbs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.    

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent exposure to heat, sun for extended periods of time.
  • Possible exposure to chemicals, fumes, odors, and various infectious diseases.
  • Exposure to wildlife.
  • Possible exposure to uncomfortable noise levels and vibration of the body or extremities.

Required Experience & Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Ability to lead a team with one-year management experience.
  • Ability to operate a tractor, with one-year relevant experience.
  • Ability to operate a tractor, Bush Hog flex-wing rotary cutter, and boom mowers.
  • Ability to obtain an airfield license.
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate riding mower, weed eater, grass edger, chain saw, stump grinder, hedge trimmer, leaf blower, wood chipper, lift, pressure washer, and other basic hand and power tools.
  • The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.
  • The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • The ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time in inclement weather.
  • Ability to work in safe and efficient manner.
  • Knowledge of tools, equipment, techniques, skills, materials, and methods of landscaping.
  • The ability to make repetitive movements.
  • The ability to work in awkward postures.
  • Ability to operate various pieces of large equipment in accordance with company procedures and safety regulations.
  • Read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • The job requires being reliable, responsible, and dependable.
  • Possess excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Be able to pass a background check and screening requirements as required by contract and company standards.
