Job description

As a School Bus Driver for Drivergent Transportation, you will safely transport students, exceed customer expectations, and ensure routes are operated on time. Successful drivers put safety first, are reliable and work in challenging and busy environments. We support our customers by understanding their needs and creating solutions to ensure their students and families are transported safely.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the safe and reliable transportation of students; including all duties connected to operating a school bus per all applicable client district policies & state/federal laws
  • Ability to manage and maintain all students on the bus in a calm and safe manner
  • Conduct all pre-trip and post-trip inspections as required
  • Report to duty on time and maintain route on time and in a safe manner
  • Physically assist passengers in evacuation of the vehicle in case of emergency
  • Inform all appropriate personnel of problems/procedures/incidents
  • Complete all required paperwork (including route change sheets, timecards, vehicle repair requests)
  • Keep the interior of the assigned vehicle clean and presentable
  • Present a neat and professional personal appearance at all times
  • Maintain a professional attitude with parents, students, other staff members, fellow employees, supervisors, customers, and passengers
  • Safely and efficiently utilizes vehicle equipment, including wheelchair lifts, radios and emergency equipment

Position Requirements

  • Ability to take and pass Continuing Education Class
  • Able to understand and have empathy for children and persons with disability
  • Extensive knowledge of traffic rules and regulations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to operate and navigate a full-size or special-need school bus
  • Ability to effectively operate a GPS
  • Ability to work outside in various climates and weather conditions
  • Must be reliable, and capable of working a flexible schedule
  • Must practice defensive driving at all times to avoid vehicular and industrial accidents
  • Proficient in English sufficient enough to read road signs and communicate with personnel

Minimum Requirements

  • Certifications/Licenses
    • RESA
    • Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
    • Passenger, School Bus, and Air Brake Endorsements
    • Michigan State Education Card
  • Age: Minimum 21 years of age
  • Education:High School Diploma or GED Required
  • Work Experience:1+ Years; 3+ years preferred
