PCCS Job Posting for Durham School Bus Driver position
All applicants for the School Bus Driver position begin with us as a Driver-in Training. The best trained drivers in the industry work for us because we devote significant resources in the training and development of our employees.
A Driver-in-Training will be trained by our staff to obtain a commercial driver license (CDL) and related school bus driver endorsements. They will also be schooled in our company's policies and procedures.
Upon the successful completion of the training program, the Driver-in Training will be placed in the role of School Bus Driver.
Starting Salary: $23.69
Experienced school bus driver's starting pay is adjusted to reflect their experience.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be at least 21 years of age with at least three (3) of driving experience.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain all valid applicable state license and other required certifications to operate company vehicles.
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Must meet physical medical requirements. Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.ย  As a safety sensitive employee, you will be subject to random drug screening per company policy.
  • Must complete and pass all required training.ย  Attendance at safety and in-service meetings is required to maintain status as qualified driver.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift/move and assist kids when necessary.
  • Must have a high degree of attention and considerable dexterity in the control of the school bus/van.
  • Must always practice defensive driving and avoid vehicle and industrial accidents by practicing safe driving and work habits.
  • Ability to maintain effective pupil management over groups of children.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide safe and reliable transportation service while operating various types of school buses in transporting students to and from school to special events, field trips, etc.
  • Report any vehicle maintenance problems to the garage in accordance with company policy. Do not knowingly operate an unsafe vehicle.
  • Report to work on time and run assigned route in a safe and timely manner.
  • Physically assist passengers in evacuating the vehicle in case of emergency.
  • Immediately report any accident or incident per company policy.
  • Exercise student management through communication and discipline per company policy.
  • Report discipline problems to school officials as instructed.
  • Keep the interior of the assigned vehicle clean and presentable.
  • Always present a neat and professional appearance.
  • Ensure the vehicle is properly fueled according to facility standards.
  • Complete all required paperwork (including route change sheets, vehicle repair request, payroll adjustment sheets) and return them to the appropriate authority in a timely manner.
  • Attend all assigned training, safety, and in-service meetings.
  • Maintains a cooperative attitude with fellow employees, supervisors, parents and school personnel. Always promotes company goodwill.
  • Prepares vehicle for inclement weather conditions, including scraping or cleaning windows or applying tire chains.
  • Safely and efficiently utilize bus equipment, including wheelchair lifts, radios, and emergency equipment.
  • Or other duties as assigned.
