ย Qualifications:
  • Valid driverโ€™s license with a clean driving record
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger and School Bus (P & S) Endorsements
  • Wayne RESA School Bus Safety Education Card
  • Satisfactory Completion of Background Check
  • Prior experience as a school bus driver preferred
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance and safety procedures
  • Ability to work with children and maintain discipline on the bus
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work up to 5 hours per day

Position Description:
As a Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences School Bus Driver, you will share a commitment to ensuring that every child is transported safely to and from school, home, and special events such as field trips.
Terms of Employment: Part time, up to 25 hours per week

Key Responsibilities
  • Safely operate a school bus and transport students to and from school and other educational or recreational activities following a scheduled route and timetable
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students during transport, including assisting students in boarding and exiting the bus and maintaining order among students while on the bus
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus, including checking the tires, brakes, lights, fuel, and oil levels, and report any issues or concerns to the transportation supervisor
  • Handle emergencies or unforeseen situations calmly and effectively, including administering basic first aid if necessary, and following established emergency procedures
  • Adhere to all traffic and safety regulations as well as state and federal laws governing the operation of a school bus
  • Maintain a professional relationship with supervisors, staff, parents, students and the public
  • Present a professional and courteous demeanor at all times, serving as a positive role model for students and demonstrating respect for diversity and inclusivity
  • Possess physical ability to perform all required workย
