QUALIFICATIONS: A satisfactory driving record to include no more than two (2) traffic violations in the past three (3) years.
A satisfactory employment record
Currently possess or be willing to obtain a Class C Commercial Drivers License with a "P" and "S" endorsement.
High School diploma or its equivalent
Must be able to pass all required training required by the school district and the Mississippi Department of Education
Must pass police background records check
Must be insurable by local district insurance carrier
Must be able to perform preventative maintenance checks
Have no known medical history or clinical diagnosis of any condition that could be detrimental to the safety if the students that will be transported
Must be willing to submit to and pass drug screening
Must be eighteen (18) years of age
Must be willing to submit to a Department of Transportation "physical" examination.
REPORTS TO: Transportation Director
JOB GOAL: To assist in providing safe transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the district's curriculum and extracurricular program.
Performance Responsibilities:
  1. Obeys all traffic laws.
  2. Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
  3. Maintains discipline and safety, within the legal limits, while students are on the bus.
  4. Reports uncontrolled students to the proper authority.
  5. Keeps assigned bus clean at all times.
  6. Operates school bus on an assigned schedule daily.
  7. Checks bus before each operation for mechanical defects.
  8. Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
  9. Picks up and discharges students at authorized bus stops only.
  10. Exercises responsible leadership on out-of-district school trips.
  11. Transports only authorized students.
  12. Reports all accidents and completes required reports immediately.
  13. Enforces regulations against smoking and eating on the bus.
  14. Performs a minimum of two (2) school bus evacuation drills each school term, using appropriate emergency procedures.
  15. Attends required in-service training.
  16. Performs pre-trip and post-trip bus inspections.
  17. Performs other related duties as requested or assigned by director.
