Job description

Position: BUS DRIVER Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Valid Illinois licensed bus driver
  2. A satisfactory driving record as revealed through checks with the National Driver Register Service and the Secretary of State's Driver Services Section, a satisfactory work history and a record free of criminal convictions
  3. Must be able to do basic physical and visual activities
  4. Criminal background checks are required
  5. Satisfactory completion of annual physical and drug testing requirements
 
Reports to:       Transportation Supervisor/Transportation Coordinator Contract year: Subject to collective bargaining agreement
Salary:             Subject to collective bargaining agreement
The basic function of this position:
  1. To provide transportation for pupils as designated by the Illinois School Code
  2. Follow all guidelines established by the Illinois School Bus Driver Training Curriculum (Initial Illino1s School Bus Driver Training Curriculum and Annual Bus Driver Training Refresher Course Curriculum).

Major Responsibility No. 1: Driving
Key Duties:
  1. Drive bus routes as scheduled
  2. Drive the appropriately sized vehicle, as needed
  3. Maintain control of student safe bus behavior
  4. Document and report any student behavior or route problems







  Major Responsibility No. 2: Vehicle Maintenance Key Duties:
  1. Pre-trip the bus daily and provide list of any needed repairs
  2. Post-trip the bus daily, including activating the dome lights and checking for students, implementing all safety procedures, emptying all garbage, sweeping bus floors, cleaning windows, washing bus interior and exterior, visually inspecting of all seats condition, and completing outside visual inspection, including tire check
   Major Responsibility No. 3: Scheduling Services Key Duties:
  1. Assist with the planning of the bus routes
  2. Call parents/guardians of students assigned to buses to confirm bus stop times
  3. Inform Transpo1iation Supervisor/Transportation Coordinator of parent/guardian requests for change in stop times or locations
   Major Responsibility No. 4: Record Keeping Key Duties:
  1. Maintain accurate records of bus service in order to compile state and federal transp01iation reports (fuel usage, fluids, and mileage)
  2. Provide Information needed by the Transportation Supervisor to complete transportation records
  3. Report all accidents following procedures outlined in Bus Driver Manual
  4. Submit within 10 school days of the first day of school and thereafter on the first of the month, an accurate record of students transported on their assigned bus route(s) to the Transportation Supervisor. This record will show in ascending order by bus stop how students board each bus. Any changes during a semester must be reported to the Transportation Supervisor within two school days
   Major Responsibility No. 5: Driver Training Key Duties:
  1. Complete any necessary training when assigned
  2. Attend required classes when assigned
  3. Follow natural disaster procedures
  4. Follow emergency procedures for the safe evacuation of the bus
  5. Conduct one evacuation drills each year as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor
   Major Responsibility No. 6: Miscellaneous Key Duties:
  1. Respond to radio messages
  2. Possess general first aid knowledge
  3. All other duties as assigned
