Job description

Evergreen Public Schools is seeking Substitute Bus Drivers to join our Transportation Team.
Bus Driver Schedules:
  • Morning driving routes begin as early as 6:00 a.m.
  • Extra-curricular driving may go as late as 11:00 p.m.
Requirements:
  • A Class B CDL with required endorsements is necessary to drive a school bus.
  • Don't have one? We provide full training - both classroom and behind-the-wheel.
Training & Certification Provided by Evergreen School District (at no cost to you):
  • Skills testing
  • DOT physical
  • Drug screen
  • First Aid/CPR certification
Paid Training:
  • $20.00/hour for up to 40 hours of classroom training
  • $20.00/hour for up to 40 hours of behind-the-wheel training
Driver Reimbursement:
The following expenses are reimbursed after 90 days worked:
  • Five-year driving abstract - $15.00
  • CDL permit endorsement testing - up to $140.00
  • CDL permit fee - $40.00
  • CDL new license - $27.00-$146.00
  • Fingerprinting - $85.00

Additional Information:
Substitute employees may accrue sick leave at the rate of one (1) hour of sick leave for every 40 hours worked under Washington State Law. Upon working 630 hours in a school year, substitutes may be eligible for insurance benefits through School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) which includes medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, life and AD&D insurance.

BUS DRIVER JOB DESCRIPTION
STANCE STATEMENT:

SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The school bus driver is responsible to safely transport the students and other authorized persons of Evergreen Public Schools on regular home to school routes and on field, extra-curricular, and special or extra activity trips as authorized by school district officials. The School Bus Driver is also responsible to operate buses in all types of weather conditions, including but not limited to fog, rain, hail, snow, sleet, and ice. Evergreen Public Schools encompasses 54 square miles.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Demonstrated ability to drive a school bus on scheduled routes (in accordance with State and Federal regulations) and/or on all types of trips in support of district approved activities, both within and outside the school district boundaries.
  2. Demonstrated ability to inspect and clean school buses and related equipment and provide necessary roadside services, such as installing tire chains, as required by State and District policy.
  3. Demonstrated ability to maintain control of student passengers as related to safety.
  4. Demonstrated ability to complete forms, records, and reports as required by the State or local school district policies.
  5. Must be able to perform basic first aid as appropriate, including CPR.
  6. Must be able to participate in school bus driver training established by the State and/or District.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Must be able to sit in the seat of the school bus for a minimum 3-hour time frame.
  2. Is physically able to maneuver and control a school bus under all driving conditions: and (Reference WAC 392-144-102)
  3. Is physically able to perform daily routine school bus vehicle safety inspections: and (Reference WAC 392-144-102)
  4. Has sufficient strength and agility to move about in a school bus as required to provide assistance to students in evacuating the bus. The driver must be able to move from a seated position in a sixty-five passenger school bus, or the largest school bus the driver will be operating, to the emergency door, open the emergency door, and exit the bus through the emergency door, all within twenty-five seconds: and (Reference WAC 392-144-102)
  5. Provide verification of holding a current and valid medical examiner's certificate. (Reference WAC 392-144-102)
  6. Must be able to hang a set of tire chains.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Must possess a valid driver's license.
  2. Must be able to obtain a Washington State CDL with passenger and school bus
  3. Must be able to obtain a Washington State School Bus Driver's certificate.
  4. Must possess a valid First Aid/CPR card.
  5. Must have sufficient command of the English language to communicate with students, parents, district staff members, and others concerned regarding all aspects of their job-related activities.
  6. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret road maps and street guides.
  7. Demonstrated ability to write legibly and keep required records.
  8. Ability to establish positive working relationships.
  9. Minimum age of 21 years. (Per WAC 392-144-101)
  10. Has no mental, nervous, organic, or functional disease or psychiatric disorder likely to interfere with his ability to drive a commercial motor vehicle safely.
  11. Has distant visual acuity of at least 20/40 in each eye without corrective lenses or visual acuity separately corrected to 20/40 or better with corrective lenses, distant binocular acuity of at least 20/40 in both eyes with or without corrective lenses, field of vision of at least 70 degrees in the horizontal median in each eye, and the ability to recognize the colors of traffic signals and devices showing standard red, green and amber.
  12. Must first perceive a forced whispered voice in the better ear not less than 5 feet with or without the use of a hearing aid.
  13. No defects or limitations likely to interfere with the safe operation of a school bus.
