Job description

The Bus Driver is responsible for safely operating buses to transport passengers, including military personnel, civilian employees, students, and other authorized passengers, along designated routes and to local or distant destinations in support of operations at the U.S. Army Presidio of Monterey, California. The driver adheres to established schedules, traffic laws, installation regulations, and all applicable safety requirements.


Duties include assisting passengers with boarding, exiting, and baggage; collecting and accounting for tickets or fares when required; and operating heating, lighting, ventilation, and other onboard systems to ensure passenger safety and comfort. The Bus Driver conducts required pre-trip and post-trip inspections, including checks of fuel, oil, coolant, tires, brakes, lights, and other safety-related equipment, and promptly reports mechanical deficiencies, delays, accidents, incidents, or unsafe conditions.


The Bus Driver may load and unload passenger baggage or authorized cargo, maintain required trip and vehicle records, document mileage and receipts, and perform minor emergency maintenance such as changing tires when authorized. The driver may also transport students or other authorized personnel between designated pickup and drop-off locations. Depending on mission requirements, the Bus Driver operates diesel-, gasoline-, or electric-powered buses over established installation, local, and regional routes while providing courteous, professional, and reliable transportation services in support of the U.S. Army Presidio of Monterey mission.
