Job description

Bus Driver

Open to the public and to all Lynwood Unified School District employees. Applications accepted (online only) from August 3, 2026 - August 21, 2026, by 4:30 PM (or sooner). Application and required documentation(s)/certification(s) deadline: August 21, 2026, by 4:30 PM (or sooner).

The District reserves the right to close the recruitment process at any time, without prior notice, based on District needs and the applicant pool, regardless of the posted application period. While the position may be advertised for up to 10 days, the posting may be closed earlier if a sufficient number of qualified applications are received or if hiring needs change.

Anticipated selection process (which may be subject to change): The District reserves the right to utilize a flexible pass point (cut off) on any test part to meet the staffing needs as determined by the District.

Performance examination: The performance exam portion of the test may have multiple steps which may be administered on different days (50% of total score).

Oral examination: The oral examination portion of the test may have multiple steps which may be administered on different days (50% of total score).

Participation in all portions of the examination process is by official invitation only. Candidates who do not participate and successfully pass all parts of the examination process will not be considered for the position.

Position details and duties: Full-time position: eight (8) hours per day; eleven (11) months per year. Basic function: The job of Bus Driver is done for the purpose/s of providing support within the student transportation services area with specific responsibilities for transporting students over scheduled routes and/or to/from field trips; and ensuring safety of students during transport, loading and unloading from buses. This job reports to designated administrator.

Initial/minimum qualifications: Applicants must provide sufficient information to demonstrate that they meet the minimum (initial) qualifications, including the submission of any required certifications and supporting documentation listed below. Failure to provide the required materials or submission of an incomplete application may result in disqualification from further consideration.

Education and experience: Graduation from high school OR General Education Development (GED) equivalent. Six (6) months of experience in a job-related field. Any other combination of education, training, and experience, which demonstrates that the applicant is likely to possess the required skills, knowledge, or abilities, may be considered.

Licenses and other requirements: Valid California Class B commercial driver's license with passenger and air brake endorsements. Valid California School Bus Driver Certificate. Valid School Bus Driver Medical Certificate. Valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification issued by an authorized agency. Valid First Aid certification issued by an authorized agency.

  2. Valid photocopy of your California Class B commercial driver's license with passenger and air brake endorsements. Official Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) driving history record WILL BE REQUIRED UPON OFFER OF EMPLOYMENT. You must go in-person to a DMV office to request your official driving record. This is the ONLY way to obtain this official document. The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) driving history must be dated within the last thirty (30) days of the employment processing period. A DMV record obtained via the internet or online will NOT be accepted.
  3. Valid California School Bus Driver Certificate.
  4. Valid School Bus Driver Medical Certificate.
  5. Valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification issued by an authorized agency.
  6. Valid First Aid certification issued by an authorized agency.

The tentative examination process for this position, which may be subject to modification, will include some form of a(n): application screening, initial qualifications screening, supplemental training and experience application screening, documentation(s)/certification(s) screening, written examination, performance examination, illustration examination and/or the oral examination process.
