Job description

Job Goals:
The overall job goal of the Special Education Bus Driver is to provide safe operation of the school bus, according to good judgement and the laws of the State of Michigan.
Location of Work:
Transportation Building

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Certification:
Completion of State School Bus Driver Training Program required
Work Experience:
Previous experience as a school bus driver preferred
Skills:
  • Exhibit satisfactory performance on both a written and driving competency test
  • Possess the physical strength to perform the required tasks
Essential Job Functions:
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug test.
  • Subject to random drug testing.
  • Maintain a current list of students picked up, in order of pick up.
  • Notify the transportation office of student address changes.
  • Be prepared to respond to bus radio.
  • Deliver students to assigned buildings, promptly.
  • Discontinue bus service to a particular student only when notified to do so by the transportation office.
  • Have children pass in front of the bus when entering or leaving the bus.
  • Prepare an accident report immediately after every accident involving the bus.
  • Assist the bus aide with care and supervision of the children in the event of an emergency.
  • Assist the school in communicating with the home and vice-versa.
  • Notify the transportation office, no later than 5:30 am, in the event of your absence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.

Terms of Employment: As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
