Position Overview

The Wastewater Technician is responsible for the successful operation and maintenance support of the wastewater treatment facility in compliance with regulatory guidelines. The Wastewater Technician will regularly collect samples, record data, make chemical adjustments to the water to maintain optimal water quality, perform system and equipment maintenance/repairs, and submit testing reports in accordance with regulatory guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect and maintain equipment, performing preventative maintenance and small repairs on wastewater treatment facilities including pumps, valves, and manual or automated control devices.
  • Monitor meters and gauges.
  • Collect and test water samples.
  • Add chemicals to disinfect water.
  • Communicate with management about any sample data that does not meet the quality guidelines.
  • Operate equipment to purify water or process sewage.
  • Clean and maintain equipment and work areas.
  • Follow regulations set by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ)
  • Follow regulations set by the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA)
  • Follow regulations set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
  • Follow safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain inventory of chemicals and supplies.
  • Perform basic computer data entry using Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, and other tools.
  • Heavy lifting and maneuvering into small, confined spaces may be required
  • Perform other GrayMar Environmental Services (NAICS 562910) - related duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications

  • Strong work ethic with a safety-first mindset.
  • Ability to work independently or part of a team while managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge and ability to troubleshoot or repair equipment effectively.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data related to plant operations.
  • Proven track record of working successfully with limited supervision while maintaining exceptional quality standards.
  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and plant operations is strongly preferred.
  • A valid driver's license is required.

Education and Experience Required

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering or a related field preferred.
  • At least 1 year of Wastewater Treatment plant operations experience preferred.

This is a rotating 12 hr shift with 4 days on, 4 days off.
Day 1: 6am - 6pm
Day 2: 6am - 6pm
Day 3: 6pm - 6am
Day 4: 6pm - 6am
Days 5 - 8: Off work, then restart rotation.
