Job description

Building Service Student Assistant

The Building Service Student Assistant performs a variety of tasks related to event setup, furniture movement, and the inspection of college safety equipment. Position works with the Building Service Specialist to ensure timely completion of tasks related to the inspection of college safety equipment, event setup and furniture movement and setup.

Position works outdoors and subject to extreme cold and extreme hot temperatures. Position requires the person to occasionally exert up to 100 pounds of force and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Position requires the person to frequently move about the various campuses. Position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to Facilities Management staff to perform the essential functions of the position. Position requires the person to frequently remain in a standing and stationary position. Position requires the person to frequently operate equipment that frequently involves repetitive motions of hands and wrists. Position requires the person to occasionally ascend/descend a ladder to perform the essential functions of the position. Position requires the person to frequently position self to move, lift, push, pull, work on, or operate equipment. Position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations. Position requires the person to communicate above ambient noise levels and exchange accurate information in various situations.

Assists the Building Service Specialist in setting up and tearing down arrangements of tables, chairs and other requested resources for events. Performs or assists in monthly inspections of fire extinguishers and interior call boxes. Replaces overhead light bulbs. Cuts and replaces ceiling tiles. Performs repairs within capability. Inspects college safety equipment as described. Performs related work as required. Moves and sets up office or classroom furniture on an as-needed basis. Assists in the occasional repair of furniture. Performs aforementioned duties between the hours of 7:30 a.m. โ€“ 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional evening/weekend hours as necessary. Schedule accommodations will be made for academic classes. Possible opportunities for work hours during break periods and holidays. Job responsibilities will cover the main campus, Capitol Hill and the FACE Center. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Abiding by the policies and procedures published in the Board of Regents Policies and College Policies & Procedures. Contributing to a safe educational & working environment. Adhering to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others. Completing quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC's established safety and health procedures and practices. Participating in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation, shelter in place drills, and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.
