PRIMARY PURPOSE: To provide fundamental Engineering principles and methods to provide forensic structural and building damage assessments to determine the origin and cause of failure / damage for residential, commercial, and industrial buildings and sites, etc. Further using recognized design principles complete design of structural restoration and repair works including reconstruction design (including building permits) following a fire, and foundation underpinning related to oil spill remediation under a building, snow load and or roof failures, and cost estimations through repair scope development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES

Inspects buildings and sites as prescribed by company policy and industry standards

Documents existing site conditions using scaled sketches and/or diagrams, measurements, collection of evidence, and photographic documentation, as appropriate

Utilizes appropriate engineering survey, monitoring, and measuring equipment

Utilizes appropriate interview skills and techniques with points of contact and/or interested parties to obtain background / historical information

Researches a variety of technical issues including building codes, standards, technical papers, textbooks, design manuals, handbooks, best practice guides, internet, etc.

Analyzes available data, develops conclusions, and drafts technical reports

Responsible for appropriate handling of records of assignments, referrals, follow-up with Claims Adjusters, interviews with property owners, witnesses, etc.

Completes building restoration designs to support application for building permits for building reconstruction

Acts as a mentor to professional staff in field of expertise overseeing the professional development of professional staff in field of expertise.

Promotes and provides superior customer service and responsiveness to customer needs

Completes all forensic investigations in a timely manner. Provides written reports that are clear and concise, written in a manner that conforms to EFI Global policies and industry standards

Promotes EFI Global capabilities to expand business opportunities with client companies

Sustains current knowledge of approved forensic engineering investigation practices

Develops and maintains positive relationships with clients, colleagues, subcontractors and prospects.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES

Complies with Company's Safety Programs/Standards

Properly utilizes Personal Protection Equipment

Exercises appropriate use, care, and maintenance of equipment (company owned or leased)

Complies with company standards and best practices regarding the storage of equipment

Meets or exceeds productivity levels and daily time submission as determined by manager.

Complies with all Human Resources Policies, Programs, and Initiatives

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Licensing

Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university and a Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the province of the posted position. Advanced degrees preferred.

Experience


Ten (10) + years of engineering experience or equivalent combination of experience and education required with some introduction to in the forensic sciences discipline. Knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, procedures, general terms, conditions, nomenclature, etc. associated with the insurance industry and assigned area of engineering specialty. Forensic Engineering investigation experience is a plus. Documented experience in structural design of wood, steel and reinforced concrete.
