Job description

SUMMARY

As a Building Project Estimator you will work with contractors and/or customers from start to finish on all projects from remodels to new construction. Estimating plans/projects and contractor sales are the main priority in this position. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares and estimates costs for construction by studying plans and specifications.
  • Resolves cost differences by analyzing and collecting info.
  • Develops bids for construction projects
  • Works closely with architects and other professionals.
  • Schedules meetings w/ clients, site managers, and staff
  • Navigates and understands building codes
  • Processes paperwork and travels to building sites as required
  • Monitors construction processes
  • Stays up to date with safety codes and improvements in construction
  • Builds and maintains long-term relationships with Key Vendors
  • Delivers superior guest service and ensure absolute customer satisfaction
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of department
  • Responsible for company assets including samples & equipment
  • Is accountable for services handled at the contractor's desk    
  • Answers incoming calls using proper phone etiquette               
  • Works closely with all departments, communicates customer feedback
  • Develops and implements weekly schedule for the contractor department                          
  • Trains and coaches team members                
  • Recommends Associates for advancement or special recognition                           
  • Control store expenses through proper ordering of product & supplies
  • Follows all store and department policies and procedures
  • Enforces safety policies and procedures; is a safety role model
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directly supervises a varied number of Associates in the Lumber Department 
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include training Associates; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining Associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or
  • 6-12 months related experience and/or training; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Write routine reports and correspondence. 
  • Speak effectively before groups of customers or Associates of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Strong math skills including algebra and geometry
  • Basic math concepts (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, percentages and sales per associate hour)
