Job description

Join the Engineering & Facilities Team at Hotel Arts

Hotel Arts is seeking a highly motivated, hands-on Maintenance Technician to join our Facilities team. This role is ideal for an experienced building maintenance professional who enjoys troubleshooting complex building systems, preventative maintenance, and responding to the day-to-day operational needs of a dynamic hospitality environment.

As a Maintenance Technician, you will play a critical role in maintaining the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of Hotel Arts' infrastructure, ensuring an exceptional experience for our guests while protecting the long-term integrity of our facility.

What You'll Do

Working as part of the Facilities team, you will perform preventative maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, repairs, and emergency response across multiple building systems including:

  • HVAC equipment and mechanical systems
  • Plumbing systems and fixtures
  • Electrical systems (lighting, receptacles, controls and minor repairs)
  • Building Automation Systems (BAS)
  • Fire & Life Safety systems
  • Domestic water systems
  • Pumps, motors and mechanical equipment
  • Doors, locks, hardware and general building infrastructure

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily inspections of mechanical rooms, equipment and building infrastructure using the PMXpert maintenance management system.
  • Monitor the performance of critical building systems, identify deficiencies and perform adjustments or repairs to maintain optimal operation.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical and plumbing issues using sound troubleshooting techniques.
  • Complete preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance and repair work orders efficiently while maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests from hotel departments, guests and commercial tenants.
  • Perform routine repairs including plumbing, drywall, painting, carpentry, hardware replacement and general building maintenance.
  • Assist with equipment shutdowns, isolations and emergency response procedures during planned work or unexpected failures.
  • Operate and understand the building fire alarm panel and assist with emergency building systems as required.
  • Coordinate with contractors, ensuring work is completed safely and with minimal disruption to hotel operations.
  • Maintain organized mechanical spaces, workshops and inventory of maintenance materials and spare parts.
  • Maintain detailed shift logs and communicate equipment status, outstanding issues and completed work with the Facilities team.

The successful candidate is a mechanically inclined, safety-focused professional with strong troubleshooting skills and a passion for maintaining high-performance facilities.

Qualifications

  • Experience in commercial building maintenance, hospitality, healthcare, institutional or multi-residential facilities.
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical and mechanical building systems.
  • Experience performing preventative maintenance and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read technical manuals, equipment documentation and mechanical drawings.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) such as PMXpert or similar software.
  • Understanding of fire and life safety systems and emergency building procedures.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple work orders in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Physically capable of lifting, climbing ladders, working in confined spaces and performing manual tasks safely.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Building Operator Certificate or equivalent building operations training.
  • 4th or 5th Class Power Engineering certification is considered an asset.
  • Trade certification in Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC/Refrigeration or Carpentry is an asset.
  • WHMIS, First Aid and Fall Protection certifications are considered assets.
