Custodian
TITLE: Elementary Evening Custodian
DEPARTMENT: Building and Grounds
REPORTS TO: Building Principal and/or Assistant Principal & Director or Building and Grounds
RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: Director of Building and Grounds and Head Elementary Custodian
BASIC FUNCTION: To assist in providing students with a clean, safe, attractive and comfortable environment in which to learn and develop
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Ability to prioritize, organize, and accomplish assigned work.
  2. Ability to function within the framework of a school environment.
  3. Must clear criminal and child abuse background check.
  4. Ability to fulfill the physical requirements of the work.
  5. High school diploma or equivalent required, training commensurate with position desired.
  6. Preferred experience in school custodial services or related experience.

  6. Inspects school facilities for the purpose of ensuring that the site is suitable for safe operations, maintained in an attractive and clean condition, and/or identifies necessary repairs due to vandalism, equipment breakage, weather conditions, etc.
  7. Cooperates with buildings and grounds personnel in keeping sidewalks, driveways and play areas safe, neat, and clean at all times.
  8. Performs general maintenance work in the building consistent with the season and in accordance with sound energy conservation practices. Including but not limited to changing light bulbs, cleaning air filters, painting, etc.
  9. Raises and lowers the United States flag at appropriate times.
  10. Maintains supplies and equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items required to properly maintain facilities.
  11. Evaluates situations involving staff, students, parents and the public for the purpose of taking action and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  12. Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns.
  13. Secures facilities and grounds for the purpose of minimizing property damage, equipment loss and potential liability. Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building.
  14. Assists with the set-up and take down of tables and furniture for lunch and special events.
  15. Performs other duties, as assigned by supervisor or building principal.

  6. Keeps work area clean and organized.

Terms of Employment: Salary and work year to be established in accordance with provisions of the Comprehensive Agreement.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Comprehensive Agreement.
Physical Requirements: Bending, carrying, climbing, travel between job sites, lifting a minimum of 50 pounds, pushing-pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, climbing ladders, shoveling snow and walking. A physical fit health physical may be requested by the District at the District's choice of health facility and cost.
Working Conditions: Includes extremes of temperature and humidity. Hazards include stairs and communicable diseases.
