Job description

Quality Inspector - Manufacturing

Desired Traits: Conscience, Mathematically Inclined, Works Safe, Team Player

What is a Quality Inspector?

The Quality Inspector conducts First Article and In-Process inspection of production components and assemblies. The inspector will monitor products and processes to determine if they meet and/or exceed the standards set by API, ISO, and Downing. First Article Inspections validate the first piece prior to the production run. In-Process Inspections will check the following: harness testing as required by API or Downing, traceability by stenciling the Downing Part Number, material heat number and serial number, critical dimensions, sealing surfaces, and threads. 

In this role, you will:

  • Inspect products using gauges, micrometers, calipers, and vision prior to shipment
  • Inspect, sign and date Production Order Travelers and/or Inspection Documents for satisfactory inspection, examination and tests and document the results of inspections and examinations in reports
  • Initiate the Non-Conformance procedure if parts do not meet engineering requirements
  • Reconcile, inspect, sign and date shipments for accuracy and quality prior to them leaving the facility
  • Complete all required safety training and follow all company safety protocols
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

Required and Preferred Experience:

  • 3-6 months or related experience in quality or manufacturing, assembly or machining required
  • Knowledge of API and ISO standards
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and blueprints
  • Write routine reports and correspondence
  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions
  • Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standard situations 

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk or hear, use hands to manipulate with fingers, handled or feel, reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. (SEF Energy employees shall not manually lift an item weighing more than 50 lbs., they shall utilize mechanical assistance devices. If mechanical assistance devices are not available, utilize a team lift.)
  • Regularly working near moving mechanical parts and vibration
  • Occasionally exposed to wet, humid conditions (non-weather), fumes of airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock
  • Ability to see at a close distance (clear vision at 20 inches or less), observe an area that can be seen up and down or left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point, judge distances and spatial relationships, three-dimensional vision, adjust focus (adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus
  • Moderate to loud noise

  • High school diploma or equivalent
