Job Summary
Under general direction, inspects structures to ensure compliance with the adopted building and zoning codes and ordinances, and verifies mechanical and plumbing inspection activities by performing the following duties.
Job Description
All candidates conditionally offered transfer, promotion or initial hiring into a DOT/safety-sensitive position shall submit to testing for drugs and alcohol and test negative before performing any job functions that are safety-sensitive or require a CDL. External job applicants with a confirmed positive drug or alcohol test result shall be denied employment and shall be required to wait one year before applying for another position within Tulsa County.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Perform on site structural, mechanical, and plumbing inspections of buildings while under construction, repair, and alteration.
  • Inspect footings and foundations, framing, and completion to ensure compliance with regulations pertaining to structural soundness, proper materials, safety hazards, and zoning.
  • Participate with office personnel in the issuance of building permits.
  • Investigate complaints of zoning violations and assist in the prosecution of such cases.
  • Confer with contractors, workmen, and others pertaining to problems.
  • Correspond with contractors pertaining to the inspection program.
  • Interpret International Codes, commercial building and one and two family building codes. Examine commercial and residential blueprints.
  • Advise adjacent municipalities on establishing inspection programs.
  • Check zoning clearance permits periodically and clears with Zoning Board of Adjustment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence

  • Deal with problems that might involve substantial variables in and the ability to research the appropriate solutions.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Education equivalent to graduation from a standard four-year high school and ten (10) years of experience in the building, plumbing or construction industry; or an associate degree in business or a related field; or any suitable combination of education, training, or experience may substitute one or more years of experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Oklahoma Driver's License possessed for at least 6 months
Defensive driving through Tulsa County within in 6 months of hired
Current Oklahoma Construction Industries Board Building, Plumbing and Mechanical Inspector License or obtainment of a two year provisional license until valid Inspector's license can be secured.
