Director of Construction

Ballston Spa, NY | WM Schultz Construction

Build More Than Projects. Build a Legacy.

WM Schultz Construction is seeking a driven, experienced, and people-focused Director of Construction to lead and elevate our operations team in Ballston Spa, New York.

This is not a desk-only leadership role. We’re looking for a construction professional who thrives in the field, inspires teams, builds strong client relationships, drives operational excellence, and champions world-class safety every single day.

At WM Schultz, we take pride in tackling complex industrial, commercial, and heavy civil construction projects with integrity, grit, and teamwork. If you’re ready to lead high-performing project teams while helping shape the future growth of a respected construction company, we want to hear from you.

What You’ll Do

As Director of Construction, you’ll provide strategic leadership, operational oversight, and technical direction across active construction projects and field operations.

You’ll work directly with executive leadership to:

  • Lead and mentor Project Managers, Superintendents, Project Engineers, and Operations staff
  • Drive project execution, accountability, and operational performance
  • Ensure projects meet contract requirements, CPM schedule milestones, safety standards, and profitability goals
  • Champion a culture built on teamwork, communication, trust, and continuous improvement
  • Strengthen relationships with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and field crews
  • Support the company’s long-term growth and operational excellence initiatives

This role combines executive leadership with boots-on-the-ground involvement. You’ll regularly visit jobsites, engage with crews, participate in safety meetings, and help drive field performance firsthand.

What Makes This Role Exciting

Lead Major Construction Operations

Oversee critical construction activities, project execution strategies, scheduling performance, labor productivity, risk management, and operational success across multiple projects.

Shape the Future of the Company

Play a key role in developing future construction operations growth, improving processes, enhancing customer experience, and building stronger teams.

Build and Develop People

Mentor the next generation of construction leaders through training, career development, coaching, and hands-on leadership.

Drive World-Class Safety

Safety isn’t just compliance here — it’s part of our culture. You’ll actively lead jobsite safety engagement and help maintain the highest standards across every project.

What You Bring

We’re looking for a proven construction leader with:

  • 8+ years of construction management or project management experience
  • 7–10 years of leadership and team supervision experience
  • Strong knowledge of construction operations, scheduling, contracts, labor management, and project financials
  • Experience leading large, complex construction projects
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
  • A proactive leadership style with strong business acumen
  • The ability to inspire accountability, collaboration, and high performance
