Key responsibilities

  • Monitor and direct the real-time operation of Hoosier Energy's transmission and generation system using EMS and SCADA technology.

  • Coordinate operational actions and share information with interconnected utilities, Member Systems, and ISOs, and develop switching instructions.

  • Take or direct timely operational actions to prevent or address system issues, ensure system reliability, and maintain safe and efficient system operation.

Job description

Help Keep the Power Flowing. Make Decisions That Matter.

Hoosier Energy is growing our System Operations team and is seeking four System Control Supervisors to join our 24/7 Control Center.

As a member of our System Operations team, you'll play a vital role in maintaining the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the electric grid. You'll monitor and direct the real-time operation of Hoosier Energy's transmission and generation system, coordinate with Member Systems, interconnected utilities, Reliability Coordinators, and Independent System Operators (ISOs), and make operational decisions that directly impact electric reliability for the communities we serve.

Working in a fast-paced control center environment, you'll use advanced Energy Management System (EMS) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) technology to monitor system conditions, direct switching operations, respond to changing grid conditions, and help maintain the integrity of the Bulk Electric System (BES). Every shift presents new challenges and opportunities to make a meaningful impact.

If you're looking for a challenging and rewarding career where your expertise helps keep the lights on for communities across Indiana and beyond, we'd love to hear from you even if you think you might not be qualified to hold the position, especially if you are NERC certified, because alternate opportunities that offer a path to a System Control Supervisor may be available for those who do not meet all of the job specifications.

Why Join Hoosier Energy?
  • Join a highly skilled team responsible for maintaining the reliability of the electric grid.
  • Play a critical role in real-time system operations that directly impact our Member Systems and the communities they serve.
  • Work with advanced EMS (Energy Management System) and SCADA technology in a collaborative control center environment.
  • Make meaningful operational decisions every day while supporting the safe delivery of reliable electricity.
  • Receive ongoing professional development and support for maintaining your NERC certification.
  • Enjoy a career where every shift offers unique challenges, opportunities to learn, and the satisfaction of serving a mission that matters.
  • Competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package.

  • Compile, summarize, and analyze interchange and generation data, preparing files and reports, as necessary. Perform daily and monthly energy and demand validation with generating stations, interconnected utilities, and ISOs.
  • Develop draft switching instructions, ensuring proper execution of switching procedures and minimizing the risk of operational errors.
  • Direct equipment switching and issue clearances to transmission and generation personnel.
  • Inform Member Systems of all system conditions which may impact power distribution.
  • Ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of electrical system facilities and equipment by monitoring load and voltage.
  • Execute operating procedures to ensure the integrity of the transmission and distribution systems.
  • Follow directives from Reliability Coordinators regarding Bulk Electric System (BES) operations.
  • Monitor transmission and distribution systems via the Energy Management System (EMS) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to inform critical operational decisions.
  • Maintain and review logs and records of activities associated with system operations and dispatch.
  • Maintain understating of internal operating procedures and relevant ISO operating manuals.
  • Provide guidance and relief to other System Control Supervisors as system or environmental conditions require.
  • Take or direct timely and appropriate real-time actions under normal or emergency conditions, if necessary, to prevent or alleviate operating limit violations, to restore the system to normal operating conditions, and ensure safety of personnel and public.
  • Work rotating shift schedule that includes 12-hour shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays in a 24/7/365 environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
