Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Building Engineer, you are responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a building’s mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems to ensure safe and efficient operations. You will perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and emergency repairs while monitoring system performance and energy usage. This role involves coordinating with vendors, contractors, and facility management to support building operations and compliance with safety and regulatory standards. You will help ensure that facilities remain functional, comfortable, and well-maintained for occupants. Strong technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and attention to safety are essential for success in this role. Additional duties or job functions that can be performed safely may be required as deemed necessary by VPG Management.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other building systems to ensure safe and efficient operation
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance of building equipment and systems
  • Respond promptly to service requests, emergencies, and system malfunctions to minimize downtime and disruption
  • Monitor and adjust building automation systems, including temperature, lighting, and energy management controls
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and service providers for repairs, installations, and inspections
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, records of repairs, and compliance documentation
  • Ensure all building systems comply with safety codes, regulatory requirements, and environmental standards
  • Assist with renovation, construction, or retrofit projects as needed
  • Monitor building security systems, elevators, fire alarms, and other safety equipment
  • Support sustainability initiatives, energy conservation, and cost-saving measures across building operations
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILTIES:

  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems; experience with building automation systems preferred
  • Knowledge of workplace safety practices, OSHA regulations, and emergency response procedures
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and repair complex building system issues efficiently
  • Must be able to provide accurate documentation of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs
  • Effective verbal and written skills for coordinating with tenants, contractors, and management

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or technical degree in building systems, engineering, or related field preferred
  • At least 3 years of experience in building maintenance, facilities management, or engineering
