Building Engineer
Location: Tampa to Sarasota, FL (travel required between properties throughout the portfolio)
Type: Contract-to-Hire

Position Summary

The Building Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, repair, and operational performance of a portfolio of medical office and commercial properties. This role ensures that all building systems function efficiently, safely, and reliably while providing a high level of service to tenants and property management teams. Regular travel between assigned properties is required.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance and routine repairs on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, and mechanical systems.
  • Conduct regular inspections of building systems, equipment, and common areas to ensure proper operation and identify maintenance needs.
  • Respond to tenant service requests and work orders in a timely and professional manner.
  • Troubleshoot building system issues and coordinate repairs with vendors and contractors as needed.
  • Monitor and maintain building automation systems and equipment performance.
  • Assist with vendor management and oversee contracted maintenance services to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Support capital improvement projects, tenant improvement work, and building upgrades.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, inspection reports, and regulatory compliance documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and applicable building codes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or trade certification preferred.
  • 3+ years of commercial building engineering, maintenance, or facilities experience, preferably within medical office, healthcare, or commercial office environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and life safety systems.
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and building repairs.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and operating procedures.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with tenants and vendors.
  • Proficiency with CMMS/work order systems and Microsoft Office preferred.
  • EPA Certification, HVAC Certification, SMA/SMT, or equivalent technical certifications preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel regularly between assigned properties.
