Job description

Description:

DCCM is seeking a Building Inspector to support residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects. This role is responsible for performing field inspections, ensuring compliance with applicable state and local codes, and working closely with contractors, clients, and internal teams throughout the construction process.


This position may be filled at varying levels depending on the candidateโ€™s experience and qualifications.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform field inspections across structural, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems
  • Ensure compliance with state and municipal building codes and regulations
  • Interpret construction plans, specifications, and related documents
  • Identify code violations and provide clear corrective direction
  • Prepare inspection reports and maintain accurate documentation
  • Assist contractors, architects, and the public with code interpretation and inspection processes
  • Conduct site investigations and support resolution of construction-related issues
  • Collaborate with internal teams and participate in project-related meetings

Requirements:


Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of building inspection or construction experience
  • Experience with residential, commercial, or industrial projects
  • Working knowledge of building codes and construction practices
  • Experience working with a city or county jurisdiction preferred

Experience Leveling

  • Candidates with 5+ years of experience may be considered for more senior responsibilities
  • Level and compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications

Education

  • Associateโ€™s degree in construction management, building sciences, public/business administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)

Certifications (Preferred)

  • ICC Building Inspector
  • ICC Building Plans Examiner
  • ICC Certified Building Official
  • CASp, LEED, or Build It Green certifications

Licenses

  • Valid California Driverโ€™s License

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to interpret construction plans and specifications
  • Strong understanding of building systems (structural, electrical, plumbing, mechanical)
  • Ability to identify defects and ensure code compliance
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
