Job description

The Opportunity:
A building enclosure testing leader is responsible for overseeing the testing and evaluation of building enclosure systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and building codes. This position requires an individual with a strong technical background in building science, as well as hands-on experience with various enclosure testing methods. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team, performing assessments, and ensuring the integrity and performance of building enclosures, such as exterior walls, roofs, windows, and doors.
Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and coordinate the execution of building enclosure testing, including air barrio, water infiltration, thermal performance, and other specialty testing.
  • Assist field staff while on site with logistics such as building chambers, leak diagnostics, and general troubleshooting.
  • Assist field staff in preparing project deliverables such as reports.
  • Mentor a team of technicians, providing guidance, training, and support.
  • Ensure testing procedures are compliant with relevant codes, standards, and best practices.
  • Coordinate testing services with project managers.
  • Provide project coordination including planning, scheduling, execution, and reporting.
  • Productively interacting with client representatives and contractors.
  • Computer skills, ability to effectively use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Safely use specialty equipment and hand tools such as circular saws, drills, and hammers.
  • Performing other duties as assigned which may include performing building conditions assessments, leak investigations, non-destructive testing, etc.

Requirements:
  • Minimum five (5) years experience performing and observing building enclosure testing.
  • As minimum, a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, Construction Management, Building Science, or related field.
  • Technical experience with various building enclosure elements such as: facades, curtain walls, fenestrations, glazing systems, sealants and coatings, insulation, air barriers, weather barriers, cladding assemblies, low-slope roofing, below-grade waterproofing, and plaza/terrace waterproofing, etc.
  • Familiar with testing standards such as:
    • AAMA 501.2 Quality Assurance and Diagnostic Water Leakage Field Check of Installed Storefronts, Curtain Walls and Sloped Glazing Systems
    • ASTM E1105 Standard Test Method for Field Determination of Water Penetration of Installed Exterior Windows, Skylights, Doors, and Curtain Walls, by Uniform or Cyclic Static Air Pressure Difference
    • ASTM E1186 Standard Practices for Air Leakage Site Detection in Building Envelopes and Air Barrier Systems
    • ABAA T0002 Standard Test Method for Pull-Off Strength of Adhered Air and Water Resistive Barriers Using an Adhesion Tester
    • ASTM D8231 Standard Practice for the Use of a Low Voltage Electronic Scanning System for Detecting and Locating Breaches in Roofing and Waterproofing Membranes.
  • Excellent technical, written, graphical and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work overtime, including weekends on an as-needed basis.
  • Ability to travel daily, shared company vehicle provided. Some overnight travel may be required.
    • A valid driver's license (good driving record) is required.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds, stand for long periods of time, work from heights, work in tight spaces and inclement weather.
  • Experience working with elevated platforms, such as ladders, pipe-scaffolding, boom-lifts, and suspended scaffolding.
    • Willingness to operate aerial lifts such as boom-lifts and suspended scaffolding, training will be provided.
  • Computer skills: ability to effectively use Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to learn new concepts and adapt to challenges.
  • Ability to work in an efficient and organized manner independently and with a team.
  • Medically fit to use personal protective equipment.

Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Previous consulting firm experience.
  • Experience reading and understanding drawings, specifications, and testing standards.
  • Experience with Bluebeam Revu.

Schedule:
  • Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM (hours may vary, overtime may be required)
  • Daily travel (shared company vehicle provided, some overnight travel may be required)
