Job description

ERG is seeking a Building Automation Systems (BAS) Technician with mid- to senior-level experience to assist with facilities projects at the Naval Support Facility (NSF) Indian Head. In this role you will perform HVAC control systems installation, programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance tasks related to mechanical, electrical, and low-voltage controls. The ideal candidate should be capable of scoping, estimating, and planning for minor HVAC repair projects and must be motivated with the skills to prioritize, perform, and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
This position is full-time onsite at NSF Indian Head, MD, and will include interaction and support from ERG personnel at the federal site, as well as from ERG's Fairfax and Arlington offices. Indian Head is approximately 30 miles from Washington, DC, 25 miles from Alexandria, VA, and 60 miles from Fredericksburg, VA.
Job Description:
  • Support the full life cycle of small-scale projects from initial concept design through project completion
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on facilities and equipment, including HVAC, electrical, digital controls, and other mechanical systems
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose problems with facilities and equipment, and repair or replace defective parts as needed
  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests
  • Conduct site visits to document existing facility conditions and develop new requirements
  • Prepare technical memoranda/reports to document facility conditions and project status
  • Ensure that all facilities follow applicable codes and regulations
  • Maintain accurate records related to maintenance activities and administrative tasks, including work orders, preventive maintenance schedules, equipment inventory, and time sheets

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience without a license or certification OR 2 years of experience if licensed/certified
  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in facilities maintenance, engineering, or a related field preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret schematic drawings and digital graphic logic
  • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Refrigerant Reclamation and Recovery Certification
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other mechanical systems
  • Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) required
  • Familiarity with state and local building codes and OSHA regulations a plus
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • This position will require a pre-employment physical exam
  • This position requires lifting objects weighing up to 100 pounds
  • Work may be performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g., fumes, dust, noise, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals)
  • You may be required to participate in medical surveillance programs
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and reach during shifts
  • Must be able to use carts, dollies, hand trucks, and other gear to move items
  • Must be able to safely climb and descend ladders, stairways, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms and perform work at heights up to and exceeding 30 feet
  • Must be able to perform work above shoulder level, including reaching, lifting, and manipulating tools and materials overhead
  • Must currently hold or be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret-level security clearance
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, as this position is not eligible for Limited Access Authorizations
  • Employees must maintain the ability to safely perform these essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation, as a condition of employment. If no reasonable accommodation is available, continued employment in the position may not be possible

$73,000 - $90,000 a year
ERG offers competitive salaries and excellent benefits, including health and dental insurance, life insurance, long-term disability, educational benefits, FSAs, a generous 401k plan, profit sharing, an EAP, 11-20 paid vacation days per year, 10 paid holidays per year, 56 hours or more of sick leave (based on the state you work in) per year (pro-rated for part-time) and more. The salary range for all positions depends on the years and type of experience.
