Job description


Responsible for global print supply chain (from design to printing in production) for quality standard and issue resolution. Works across functions (Purchasing, MPD, Package Development) on printer evaluations. Collaborates to enable adherence and alignment of Print Quality Programs across functions for current printers (suppliers). Leads regular reviews with suppliers and business. Develops improvement plans to resolve print quality issues and scorecards. Leads root cause analysis of print quality issues in partnership with Package Development. Uses knowledge on latest pre-press and packaging software as well as digital technologies to present solutions and options to the business.
Objective
Provide experienced senior-level design ownership across Packaging and Brand, with emphasis on packaging and label development, product launches, brand systems, product storytelling, renders, campaign expression, and the cross-functional work required to move creative projects from development through execution.
Scope of Services
The consultant will:
Packaging + Innovation
  • Lead design development for assigned packaging and Innovation projects.
  • Develop packaging and label concepts.
  • Support new products, product renovations, collection launches, extensions, and portfolio updates.
  • Develop packaging architecture across relevant SKUs.
  • Explore typography, color, hierarchy, iconography, ingredient communication, claims, product benefits, and overall visual expression.
  • Create mockups, design explorations, presentations, and visualizations.
  • Develop or direct product and packaging renders as required.
  • Support refinement through final artwork and production readiness.
  • Maintain alignment with established Mielle brand standards.

Brand + Visual Expression
  • Develop and evolve brand creative across key initiatives and launches.
  • Translate strategic direction into strong visual concepts and brand expression.
  • Develop campaign and launch visual systems that can extend across appropriate touchpoints.
  • Build scalable visual systems across products, collections, and brand initiatives.
  • Establish consistency across packaging and broader brand creative.
  • Develop typography, graphic languages, image direction, layout systems, and other visual components as required.
  • Create templates, visual guidance, and design standards that enable consistent execution.
  • Identify opportunities to thoughtfully evolve the Mielle visual system while protecting brand recognition and equity.

Concept Development + Design Execution
  • Participate in early creative thinking and translate briefs into distinct visual territories and design solutions.
  • Develop moodboards, creative concepts, design studies, and prototypes.
  • Independently create and refine design work using professional Creative tools.
  • Bring strong typography, layout, visual hierarchy, art direction, composition, image selection, and production craft.
  • Present creative recommendations with clear rationale.
  • Prepare final working files and production-ready artwork as required.
  • Remain hands-on throughout the engagement.

AI-Supported Creative Development
  • Use AI to support ideation, concept exploration, moodboarding, visual development, prototyping, product visualization, and other appropriate creative needs.
  • Integrate AI-generated assets into professionally designed work when appropriate.
  • Apply strong design judgment to evaluate and correct generated outputs.
  • Protect visual quality, accuracy, product integrity, and brand consistency.
  • Use AI as a tool to improve speed and creative range without replacing professional design craft.

Vendor + Agency Management
  • Collaborate with and, where assigned, manage external design agencies, freelancers, render partners, printers, and production vendors.
  • Provide creative direction and clear feedback.
  • Review external work and maintain quality control.
  • Track vendor revisions and outstanding creative needs.
  • Support development and management of scopes, project requirements, deliverables, and expectations.
  • Surface scope, timing, or quality risks promptly.
  • Coordinate with Creative Project Management and Procurement processes where required.
  • Hold external partners accountable for agreed creative quality, timing, and brand consistency.

Project + Workstream Management
  • Own assigned projects from kickoff through final delivery.
  • Maintain awareness of deadlines, dependencies, required inputs, approvals, and open issues.
  • Attend relevant project and creative meetings.
  • Maintain organized working files and status visibility.
  • Proactively flag risks and recommend solutions.
  • Manage multiple concurrent workstreams effectively.
  • Work independently while maintaining appropriate Creative Director visibility.

Required Consultant Profile
7+ years of professional design experience recommended.
  • Strong packaging, brand identity, visual systems, and brand expression expertise.
  • Demonstrated hands-on design capability.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating senior-level design craft and conceptual thinking.
  • Experience taking packaging and brand initiatives from concept through execution.
  • Experience with multi-SKU consumer products and new product launches.
  • Experience developing scalable brand and design systems.
  • Vendor and agency management experience.
  • Experience managing creative workstreams involving multiple stakeholders and approval points.
  • Strong cross-functional stakeholder management and presentation skills.
  • Experience with AI-supported design workflows.
  • Beauty, personal care, CPG, lifestyle, or comparable consumer brand experience preferred.
