ASSIGNMENT DETAILS:
Title: Substitute Transportation Education Assistant
Location: District-Wide
Hours: Morning, Mid-Day and Afternoon routes available
Compensation: $15.00 per hour
ESST/Sick Eligible
JOB SUMMARY:
Transporation Paraprofessionals are assigned to a vehicle transporting students with disabilities will ensure the safe transport of students to and from home.
Transportation Paraprofessionals are responsible for supervising students during the entire route.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:










  • Clearly articulate expectations to students.
  • Apply common sense reasoning dealing with behavioral situations.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and community.
  • Prompt, regular attendance for scheduled assignment.
  • Assist students on the bus. Properly buckle seat belts, secure wheelchairs, 4-point harnesses, booster seats, and car seats. Assure that all students are on the bus prior to departure.
  • Occupy the seat that provides the best opportunity for supervision and student protection while the bus is in transit.
  • Observe all bus rider rules and maintain appropriate noise level.
  • Monitor students' behavior and needs. Report any concerns to the school, teacher(s), or district.
  • Be familiar with the location and use of emergency equipment on the bus. Know how to use the 2-way radio.
  • Know the procedures for evacuating students off of the bus during an emergency.
  • Help students off the bus. Check the bus for articles left behind by students.
  • Prepare any forms requested by the district or school personnel. Each paraprofessional assigned to a vehicle transporting students with disabilities will maintain a roster, which includes the name, address, home phone number, and emergency phone number of each child on the bus. The copy remains on the bus to assist any substitute personnel on the bus.
  • Assure all student information is kept confidential.
  • Participate in annual training courses, including basic first aid and the proper methods for dealing with the specific needs and problems of students with disabilities.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • HS Diploma, preference given to those with 60 college credits or completion of ParaPro exam.
  • Experience working with or exposure to persons with disabilities is preferred.
