Job description

As a Treatment Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting counselors by handling routine administrative and operational tasks, ensuring they have the time and space to focus on direct client care, including groups, TCM and shift summaries. In this role, you will help maintain a smooth workflow and promote a structured, therapeutic environment for clients. Responsibilities include client supervision, medication support, answering phones, and assisting with various clerical and operational functions essential to daily program operations. Through this work, you will contribute directly to a positive client experience and a workplace culture rooted in Buckelew's mission and values.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties represent the core responsibilities of this position and outline the scope of work expected. They are not intended to be a comprehensive list of all tasks. Additional related duties may be assigned as necessary to ensure effective program operation. Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
  • Assist clients with self-administration of medications in accordance with program protocols.
  • Answer incoming calls and direct inquiries appropriately.
  • Respond to client requests and questions to minimize interruptions to counselors.
  • Circulate throughout the facility to monitor activity, provide support, and ensure compliance with program structure.
  • Conduct and document client property searches during intake if no SSW on shift
  • Maintain visual supervision of clients throughout shift to ensure safety and accountability.
  • Ensure clients are in their rooms at designated times per program schedule.
  • Prepare and organize client files for new admissions.
  • Administer and document urine drug screens (UAs) as required.
  • Perform clerical duties, including filing, copying, and other administrative support as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and timely shift documentation, including incident reporting.
  • Send shift reports to the "Residential Team" distribution list at the end of each shift.
  • In the event of an emergency or distressed caller, contact the Assistant Director or Director unless credentialed to provide crisis counseling.
  • Support facility operations by completing tasks specific to program needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must be registered or certified as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor through CADTP, CCAPP, CAADE, or another state-approved organization.
  • 1-3 months of related experience and/or training preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Skills & Abilities
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow written instructions and policies.
  • Basic writing skills for completing documentation and correspondence.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to perform basic math functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Strong problem-solving abilities: able to adapt to changing needs and respond appropriately.
  • Ability to work independently while being part of a team-oriented environment.
  • Comfortable engaging with clients in a respectful, supportive, and professional manner.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Regularly sit, use hands/fingers, talk, and hear.
  • Frequently stand and walk.
  • Occasionally reach with arms/hands, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste, or smell.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this role must maintain registration and pursue certification as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor through CADTP, CCAPP, or another state-approved certifying organization. Certification must be obtained within five (5) years of registration. Failure to maintain registration or certification may result in disqualification from continued employment.
