What is a BTP developer?

BTP Developers are professionals who specialize in developing applications and solutions using SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP). They leverage BTP’s services, such as database management, analytics, application development, and integration tools, to build scalable and secure business solutions. BTP Developers often work with technologies like SAP Cloud Platform, SAP HANA, and various programming languages to meet business needs. Their role involves designing, coding, testing, and deploying applications that integrate seamlessly with SAP and non-SAP systems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a BTP developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a BTP (SAP Business Technology Platform) Developer, you need strong programming skills in languages like Java, JavaScript, or Node.js, along with experience in cloud platforms and a solid understanding of SAP systems. Familiarity with SAP BTP services, SAP Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP), and certifications such as SAP Certified Development Associate are highly beneficial. Strong problem-solving abilities, communication, and adaptability set standout developers apart in collaborative and fast-evolving environments. These competencies enable efficient solution development, seamless integration, and innovation within the SAP ecosystem.

What are some common challenges BTP developers face when integrating SAP Business Technology Platform services with existing enterprise systems?

BTP Developers often encounter challenges related to system compatibility, data synchronization, and security when integrating SAP BTP services with legacy enterprise systems. These integrations typically require a deep understanding of both the BTP environment and the various APIs or connectors for existing on-premise or cloud solutions. Managing authentication, ensuring data consistency, and orchestrating complex workflows across different platforms can also be demanding. Collaborating closely with infrastructure teams and business stakeholders is essential to address these challenges effectively and ensure smooth deployment.

Title: SAP FICO Specialist / Architect

Location: Atlanta, GA (Onsite)

Duration: Fulltime

Role Summary :

Own the end-to-end Finance solution architecture on global SAP S/4HANA transformations across greenfield, brownfield conversion and selective data transition, on both RISE with SAP and on-premises — from fit-to-standard through build, test, cutover and hypercare, with a clean-core, BTP-first extensibility model.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the accountable Finance lead architect on global S/4HANA transformations across greenfield, brownfield conversion and selective data transition, for RISE and on premises.
  • Own FI & CO design: GL, AP, AR, Asset Accounting, Bank Accounting, Universal Journal/ACDOCA, Margin Analysis, Product Costing, Overhead Management and Group Reporting.
  • Design intercompany accounting end to end — ICMR matching and reconciliation, transfer pricing, cross-company postings and eliminations.
  • Architect banking integrations: bank account management, MBC/SWIFT connectivity, payment formats, electronic bank statement, lockbox and payment approval workflow.
  • Own FSCM across Credit, Collections, Dispute and Cash Management, with In-House Cash and Treasury interfaces.
  • Design to US GAAP and ASC 606 revenue recognition plus statutory and local GAAP reporting via parallel ledgers, multi-currency and localization.
  • Define SAP BTP usage in Finance to enable clean core — side-by-side extensions, Integration Suite, process automation and AI/Joule-based finance automation.
  • Enforce the clean-core extensibility model: key-user and developer extensibility, custom-code remediation, Simplification Item and Readiness Check outcomes.
  • Architect FICO integration with SD, MM, PP, PS and the peripheral landscape — tax engines (Vertex/OneSource), e-invoicing and document compliance, treasury, T&E, billing and EPM/reporting.
  • Own finance data migration and reconciliation — master data, open items, balances, history — with tie-out controls agreed with controllership.
  • Chair the Finance design authority; run fit-to-standard workshops with CFO, controllership and process owners; approve specs, RICEFW and change requests.
  • Embed SOX controls, segregation of duties, audit traceability and GRC requirements; guide the team through SIT, UAT, cutover and hypercare.

Required Qualifications:

  • 12+ years SAP Finance with direct lead responsibility for FI & CO delivery on multiple global S/4HANA programs.
  • Strong SAP ECC FI/CO background — able to lead ECC enhancement, support and rollout projects alongside S/4HANA transformations.
  • Architecture ownership across all three transition variants — greenfield, brownfield and selective data transition — on RISE and on-premise.
  • Strong command of US GAAP, ASC 606 and statutory reporting, including parallel ledgers and country localization.
  • Hands-on SAP BTP experience in the finance domain — clean core, AI and process automation — is mandatory.
  • Proven depth in intercompany accounting, banking integrations and FSCM; delivery in highly integrated landscapes with multiple peripheral applications.
  • Excellent CFO / controller / IT-leadership stakeholder and workshop facilitation skills; Bachelor's in Finance, Accounting, Engineering or CS.

Preferred Skills:

  • SAP S/4HANA Finance, BTP and SAP Activate certifications; Central Finance, Group Reporting, SAC or Datasphere experience.
  • CPA, CA or MBA (Finance); Big 4 or global SI background; industry depth in discrete manufacturing and heavy equipment.
