Job description

Broward House, Inc. is a not-for-profit community-based organization serving Broward County with a focus on HIV care and Prevention, housing, and behavioral health. SUMMARY
This position is responsible for insuring that all food preparation and presentation is in accordance with the highest standards of quality and sanitation, adhering to nutritional guidelines with the guidance of the Head Cook
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintains kitchen in a sanitary and orderly fashion in accordance with Health Department guidelines with special attention to food handling and quality of items produced. This includes a working knowledge and application of sanitary food handling.
  • Maintains the kitchen and pantry in accordance with Department of Health and Agency for Health Care Administration Standards.
  • Prepares meals and snacks as outlined on menus and adjusting or as necessary, and providing alternative meals as appropriate.
  • Meets special nutritional needs of clients and preference as directed by Head Cook, Nurses and Management
  • Follow cleaning and maintenance schedule of kitchen, pantry and dining room, reporting unsafe conditions to Head Cook Nurse Manager or Director.
  • Interacts in a positive, supportive way with residents.
  • Engages and effectively works with person in crisis.
  • Provide support and guidance to Dietary Aids.
  • Performs related duties as directed by Administration.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to maintain and clean standard kitchen equipment

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Training in dietary sanitation and food preparation. One year directly related experience preferred.

Must pass all drug and background screening, including a level 2 federal background and motor vehicle screening.
Hours: Full-time 40/hrs. including rotating holidays.

Broward House was founded in 1988, during the peak of the AIDS epidemic, as a hospice for terminally ill, uninsured AIDS patients who were often suffering from extreme poverty. At the time, AIDS discrimination was everywhere, and Broward House was a safe and stable place to "die with dignity."
As medicine advanced, our purpose has shifted to teaching those impacted to now "live and thrive" with HIV.
Today, we operate a 74-bed transitional housing facility with 24-hour medical support and an onsite substance use treatment program for uninsured persons living with HIV. In addition, Broward House owns and operates 10 apartment buildings comprising of 72 units of affordable rental housing and manages rental subsidy vouchers for over 80 participants.
Our goal is to support the health and stability of each individual who walks through our door with a unique plan to their goals, including mental health counseling, free HIV/STI testing, medical respite care, and wrap-around case management services.
