Compensation: Salaried position commensurate with experience and education

Hours: Full-time, Rotating shifts (Day, Evening, Night)

Travel required: No

Lifting: 50-75lbs lifting as necessary






GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Broadcast Engineer will be responsible for building and maintaining state of the art contribution, distribution, and routing platforms for the international news studios in Washington, DC.

The individual must have deep knowledge of network principles and Broadcast technologies, Television standards, systems, and all aspects of LAN, WAN and WLAN networks and Network services.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Build and maintain state of the art contribution and distribution platforms for the broadcaster.
  • Build and maintain cutting edge broadcast network infrastructure for the facility.
  • Conduct performance and system tests to continuously evolve facility architecture and infrastructure.
  • Analyze dashboards and constantly optimize system traffic, security and identify bugs in the facility.
  • Collaborate with vendor product development teams, operational teams, engineering teams to develop long term strategy and implement roadmaps.
  • Work with broadcast switches and routers for effective signal distribution throughout all operational areas.
  • Work with IP-based network technologies, WAN interconnects, virtual machines, AD domain services, group policy deployment and database administration.
  • Support on-air broadcast systems


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have knowledge of broadcast technologies, television standards, systems and theories along with strong IT skills and installation of IP based systems.
  • Understand SMPTE standards and implements quality control on broadcast center equipment
  • In-depth experience and talent in using packet/protocol analyzers, TCP dump to find and remedy application and network performance issues.
  • Ability to work alone as an individual contributor, as a technical lead (when required) and as a participant in a team environment.
  • Work on on-prem and cloud-based storage and compute infrastructure platforms. Ensure technology on site complies with company’s business continuity and disaster recovery plans.

  • Strong documentation skills, including maintaining signal flow diagrams, system configurations, and technical documentation.
  • Providing implementation services related to the specifications, installation, configuration, administration, testing, training and support of high availability network infrastructure.
  • Designing IP scheme and network diagram for multi-server environments.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all implemented.
  • Maintenance and problem resolution, operating system patches and software upgrades, and routine hardware configuration.
  • Responds to emergency situations as needed for the purpose of resolving immediate concerns.
  • Good knowledge of broadcast engineering and IT technologies. VMware system administration for medium sized business with multiple offices.
  • Experience with AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Cloudflare and other cloud services providers is a major plus.
  • Self-starter, ideally with business start-up experience
  • Teamwork focused attitude geared toward knowledge transfer within a multi-skilled team.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Communications, Electronic Engineering or related field preferred; or Technical school training with electronics training and related experience.
  • Cisco Certifications (CCNA/CCNP)
  • 5+ Years of experience in broadcast environment.
