Description:

JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision, performs a variety of duties pertaining to the installation and maintenance of analog, digital video and data services to residential and commercial premises. This position is “certified” in installation and provisioning of CNS data services. Reports to CNS Operations Supervisor. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (examples, not all inclusive)

  • Performs new cable installations from system feeder tap port to the customer’s equipment interface. This includes aerial / underground drops and inside wiring to customer video, voice and data equipment.
  • Installation and provisioning of high-speed Internet services to new and existing customers via DOCSIS cable modem to include data networking.
  • Installation and provisioning of Voip telephony services to new and existing customers via DOCSIS telephony/data modem interfaced to structured wiring.
  • Provides Level I voice and data support, Troubleshoots cable modem, telephony modem, Ethernet network, OS and CPU equipment.
  • Installs various software and hardware to enable customer Internet access.
  • Troubleshoots and finds drop related problems.
  • Advanced troubleshooting to find and identify system related problems that can be passed along to Line Technicians for repair.
  • Troubleshoot and repair ingress and SNR problems at the customer premise and out to the TAP. 
  • Accurately locate and mark underground drops, fiber and coax to prevent damage by other providers when digging.
  • Replaces or rewires house drops or any part thereof when it is necessary to correct drop related problems.
  • Educates customers of proper operation and use of interface equipment. Provides customers with information on company services and costs.
  • Coordinates with scheduling, dispatch, or supervisors on job status, problems encountered and rescheduling requirements.
  • Recovers company equipment from customer’s premises when performing disconnect.
  • Is responsible for the safe care and use of company vehicles, tools and equipment at all times.
  • Performs all duties safely in accordance with Thomasville Utilities safety policies, training and procedures. Reports all hazardous conditions to immediate supervisor for correction.
  • Perform On-call rotation as assigned by supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.


Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and driving record must meet the requirements outlined in the company’s Driver Safety Standards.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must complete NCTI Installer course to be qualified for the position.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 


  • Must be physically able to climb poles and/or ladders and be able to perform work at heights.
  • Must be able to lift, carry and handle ladders and weights up to 90 pounds.
  • Must always meet Thomasville Utilities standards of appearance and demeanor.
  • Must work well with other company employees to provide excellent customer service.
  • Must maintain excellent relationships with customers to create and maintain a high level of customer satisfaction with the company and its services.


PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS


The primary work environment of this position is in field, the candidate will be exposed to extreme weather conditions and will be on occasion required to perform manual tasks. These tasks will include but are not limited to the following (lifting, pulling, pushing, climbing and walking over rough terrain).    

WORKING CONDITIONS

Daily work will typically be scheduled appointments at specific times to meet with customers. Employees will normally be on their own to perform the work and will need to be self-motivated. At times you will have to go under houses or in attics where it can be excessively hot and dirty.
