Job description

JOB PURPOSE

The Bridge Superintendent is responsible for the safety, quality, efficiency, and timeliness of the project. This position will provide on-site coordination for all phases of the project, including material, equipment, subcontractors, and labor. While there are specific responsibilities and expectations described below, it is essential that the Bridge Superintendent be organized, possess good judgment skills, communicate effectively, and have technical knowledge of concrete and steel bridge structures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Promotes safety, quality, efficiency, and core values

· Develops, refines, and updates the project schedule

· Complete knowledge and understanding of contract drawings/specifications

· Understands project costs and manages company assets

· Creates and manages project documentation

· Coordinates project operations including subcontractors and material vendors

· Knowledge of all regulations to ensure all aspects of the project are compliant

· Provides leadership and maintains effective working relationships with the on-site staff

· Develops daily crew lists and manages field activities to ensure the project completion date is met

· Leads weekly foreman meeting

· Plans and develops a three-week forecast to proactively identify issues that could lead to problems and facilitate solutions

· Maintains regulatory compliance for projects

· Ability to interface and maintain good relationships with owners

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education

o Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred

o Educational equivalent or relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree

Experience

o Minimum of five years of experience of progressive responsibility supervising bridge-focused construction projects

o Minimum of five years of experience in a construction-related field

Requirements/Competencies

o Ability to multitask on complex projects

o Ability to read construction drawings and understand specifications

o Familiar with Microsoft Office products

o Can take charge and capitalize on opportunities

o Demonstrates strong ethics and integrity through honest and principled behavior

o Understands the viewpoint of higher management and effectively analyzes complex problems

o Can communicate clearly and convincingly, both orally and in writing

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position, and the work week for employees is normally considered 40 hours Monday through Friday. Flexibility is required to support time-sensitive issues as they arise. However, greater emphasis is placed on meeting the responsibilities assigned to this position.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Most of the work is performed outdoors under all weather conditions. The work schedule will involve travel and potential work at different field locations as necessary. Depending on the project, overnight stays may be expected. Administrative work takes place in a non-smoking office or field office environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

An employee must meet the physical requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation, to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Employees must have the ability to:

· Sit (or stand) for prolonged periods of time

· Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds

· Occasionally bend, twist, squat, and kneel

· Occasionally walk up and down the stairs

· Demonstrate visual acuity with or without corrected vision

· Demonstrate hearing acuity with or without corrected hearing

· Must be able to walk outdoor construction sites with uneven terrain and obstacles

· Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions
