Senior Structural Engineer - Bridge/Transportation - Atlanta, GA
VHB's structural engineering group plays a vital role in developing and enhancing connectivity through infrastructure projects such as complex bridge and interchange designs, rehabilitation and inspection, pedestrian walkways, and transit stations. This diverse range of structural engineering services helps improve mobility for the traveling public.

In this position, primarily, you would serve in a lead technical role in the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of bridge and other transportation related structural projects - from highway to pedestrian to rail - as well as mentor our structural team. You would also serve as a Project Manager and be expected to assist with project pursuits. The ideal candidate should possess a "can-do" attitude, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to work independently as well as with a team in a dynamic, fast-paced, and fun environment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform structural modeling, design, and oversight for bridge and other transportation infrastructure projects
  • Prepare construction documents, including plans, specifications, estimates and calculation packages
  • Provide technical support/mentorship to structural engineering staff
  • Perform quality assurance reviews of project construction documents, engineering reports, etc.
  • Assist in preparation of qualification packages, proposals and/or contracts involving technical approach, costs, and scheduling
  • Provide project management
  • Review fabrication drawings and provide construction plan reviews

Skills & Abilities
  • Self-motivated with excellent attention to detail and quality
  • Must possess strong technical skills in bridge/structural design and critical thinking
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Effective and comfortable in a highly collaborative team environment
  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal presentations and technical writing is essential
  • Experience with and motivation to lead and mentor junior staff
  • Model-based design experience
  • Project management skills

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum 8-11 years of structural bridge/transportation design experience required.
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering required; master's degree preferred
  • PE license required or ability to attain within 6 months.
  • Experience completing engineering studies, design reports, compiling contract documents and developing contract plans, in conformity with accepted engineering standards and procedures including AASHTO, GDOT, local municipalities/counties, and other state DOTs
  • Strong familiarity with any of the following structural engineering software
    (i.e. Mathcad, FB-MultiPier, ATLAS, STAAD Pro, LARSA 4D, AASHTOWare, MDX, SP Column, MerlinDASH, GDOT Structures Design Programs, etc.)
  • Model-based design experience is a strong plus:
    • Bentley OpenBridge and OpenRoads
    • AutoCADD Civil 3D and Revit/Infraworks/Inventor
