Job description

bout the Role

Holman Masonry is looking for skilled Masons and Bricklayers who take elite pride in their trowel work. We aren't looking for someone to just "slap mud"; we are looking for craftsmen who understand bond patterns, structural integrity, and the aesthetic beauty of high-end masonry.

As a Mason at Holman, you will work on a diverse range of projects—from intricate "English Bond" brickwork on historic Virginia estates to large-scale commercial CMU (block) projects. You will be supported by a dedicated team of laborers and guided by a family-owned company that has been the gold standard in Farmville since 1996.

Key Responsibilities

  • Expert Laying: Laying stone, brick, and concrete block (CMU) with precision, ensuring level, plumb, and square results every time.
  • Material Versatility: Working with various materials including natural stone, cultured stone, glass block, and terracotta.
  • Blueprint Interpretation: Reading and following technical sketches and blueprints to ensure the design is executed exactly as planned.
  • Joint Finishing: Ensuring all mortar joints are finished (struck) cleanly and consistently according to project specifications.
  • Mentorship: Providing guidance to General Laborers and Apprentices to help them grow within the "Holman Way."
  • Site Safety: Maintaining a safe workspace on scaffolding and around heavy machinery, adhering to all OSHA and company safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Must have professional masonry experience.
  • Technical Skills: * Mastery of hand tools (trowels, jointers, hammers, levels).
    • Experience with power saws and masonry equipment.
    • Deep understanding of mortar types (N, S, O) and their specific applications.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to work on scaffolding at various heights and lift heavy materials throughout the day.
  • Professionalism: A "Class A" attitude. You represent Holman Masonry on every job site.
  • Reliability: Must have a valid driver’s license and dependable transportation to job sites in the Farmville/Richmond/Lynchburg areas.

The Holman Professional Package

  • Top-Tier Pay: We pay for talent. Competitive hourly rates based on your specific skill level and speed.
  • Quality Over Quantity: While we work efficiently, we never sacrifice "The Right Way" for a deadline.
  • Equipment: Access to well-maintained scaffolding, mixers, and forklifts to make your job easier.
  • Long-Term Stability: We have a 25+ year reputation and a backlog of work that keeps our crews busy year-round.

Benefits:

    • 401K Program with company contribution (after 1 year).
    • 5 Paid Holidays and 1 week of Vacation.
    • A family-first culture where you are a name, not a number.

Company Description

Since 1996, Holman Masonry has been a premier Class A Contractor specializing in high-quality brick, block, and stone work for commercial and residential projects across Virginia. We pride ourselves on a "hands-on" approach, where quality workmanship and customer satisfaction are our top priorities. At Holman, we are more than just a crew—we are a close-knit family of 40+ professionals who believe that “the only way is the right way.”
