Job description

Overview
The Staff Accountant must believe in, practice, and initiate all Green Brick Partners values set forth in an acronym we call HOME. They must be Honest, Objective, Mature and Efficient in how he or she approaches their role at Green Brick Partners.
The primary purpose of this position is to support the accounting operations for Green Brick Title, but as a member of the Green Brick corporate accounting team, this position also offers broad exposure to Green Brick's corporate, mortgage, treasury, builder shared services and SEC reporting functions.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare relevant journal entries timely and accurately to meet accounting close schedules.
  • Prepare and maintain the monthly journal entries around the GRBK Title Qualia Escrow Account process.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations with accurate support for key account areas of the financial statements.
  • Perform assigned control activities and maintain supporting documentation in accordance with the Company's internal control framework.
  • Assist in the preparation of internal monthly and quarterly financial reports
  • Manage ad-hoc requests from Green Brick Title/Green Brick Mortgage operations teams and GRBK Corporate management
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and assist with automation initiatives related to assigned responsibilities.
  • Manage and prioritize work effectively to meet multiple processing and reporting deadlines related to vendor payments, accounting close, external financial reporting, and internal management reporting.
  • Provide backup support for Treasury Operations, gaining exposure to cash management, banking activities, and treasury reporting processes while ensuring continuity of critical operations.
  • Serve as a backup for Mortgage Accounting and Finance Operations activities, including recurring reporting, account reconciliations, financial analysis, and other assigned responsibilities to support business continuity.
  • Assist with preparation and maintenance of documentation for internal and external audits.
  • Assist SEC Reporting team with preparation and tie-out of quarterly schedules to support 10-Q and 10-K reports

Authority/Budget/Decision Making/Discretion and Independent Judgment Ability: Independent judgement is required to prioritize work effectively to meet multiple overlapping deadlines. Analyze complex financial reports, transactions, and processes and demonstrate the ability to detect and resolve issues, determine the cause of variances, and identify and implement corrections to balances and in processes to facilitate complete and accurate financial statements.
Physical Requirements: Ability to stand and walk for 4 hours straight or up to a full 8-hour day; sit for extended periods; kneel and bend at the waist; walk up and down stairs; walk on unlevel terrain; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision ability required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and peripheral vision.

Qualifications
Education:
  • BS degree in Accounting/Finance

Experience:
  • 1+ years experience in accounting

Competencies:
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong computer skills with Microsoft Excel
  • Strong interpersonal skills to enable effective communication with management
  • Experience with Qualia is a plus
